About this listen

Raymond Bannister is a wealthy man living a secure life, but the day that he receives a single slipper in an envelope his world falls apart. He seeks out a place in the bad part of town—is he looking for his own demise? He is found slashed down in a dirty alleyway. The crime and the crime scene are inexplicable to Lestrade, and he seeks the help of his new consultant detective, Mr. Sherlock Holmes. This beginning will lead us back in time, to India, and it will lead us to the strange origin of a group of children that call themselves the Irregulars. Is the answer to this case also the answer to the big question—who is Sherlock Holmes? Meanwhile the emotions between Missy Hudson and John Watson are stirring, as a certain Mary Morstan seeks the help of Sherlock. A mysterious and cruel new player has entered the London underworld, his signature is just the letter M.

This is clever stuff. Apocalyptic London. Re-imagined Watson & Holmes. A solid storyline. Intriguing characters. Hugely enjoyed both the books in this series. More please.

A VERY CLEVER CONCEPT PERFECTLY EXECUTED

Twisting plot. Excellent narration. This second novel builds on the characterisations of the first and fleshes out some of the ‘Sherlock’ backstory. However, it leaves enough unexplained to make you want to move on to novel number three.

As good as the previous novel

Brilliant…just get it….but we need lots and lots more books….really enjoyed it

Love it….

This story is, on a philosophical level, an exploration of what it means to be human. It is a cracking crime story, with familiar characters viewed through an original lens. The development of the relationship between Watson and Holmes is wonderful and is given a very different perspective. I really enjoyed this and look forward to more.

Familiar and yet original.

Loved the original idea of setting the characters in a different context and time.
Great nods to the original books.

An original and exciting take on the Sherlock stories

Another clever novel from AH. Loved the little through backs to the originals and the recent TV series, all these little things are worth seeking out. The twist on the characters adds to the interest. Now waiting for the finale and Mycroft / Moriarity reveal. Oh, and great narration too.
I'm confused by the end credits -'written by Sara Jane Naughton' and 'based on an idea by Anthony Horowitz' - quite different from 'By: Anthony Horowitz'.

Thoroughly enjoyable

I enjoyed the other Anthony Horowitz takes on Sherlock, Moriaty and the House of Silk were both very good and different in their own right. This again is familiar but different and the setting also gives a new slant on the familiar characters a cross between Sherlock the TV show with cumberbatch and freeman and the original stories with the post apocalyptic London reverting to a more traditional setting. I loved everything about it and the narration was really EXCELLENT. I listened to both back to back in less than a week, more please!

Excellent narration and brought new dimensions to familiar characters

This was enthralling and such a wonderfully different take on the general story. Can’t wait to read the next one.

A terrific listen

Enjoyable, account of Holmes and Watson, set in the future,
A London that is forced back to Victorian ways, For the majority poor. And into the ultra luxury comfort for the powerful of the rich, and wealthy. The story, has intrigue, it twists, and turns drawing out the familiar characters, in unexpected ways A must read

I enjoyed the Red Circle but this book seemed thin and didn’t hold my attention for very long. The characters didn’t really develop and the story was poor. I won’t be buying the next book in the series

Disappointing
