Tiré par un gigantesque canon, l'obus imaginé par l'ingénieur Barbicane se dirige maintenant vers la Lune, et les trois passagers qui y ont pris place vont être les témoins d'extraordinaires événements : la découverte de l'apesanteur qui les fait flotter à l'intérieur de leur projectile ; la rencontre avec un astéroïde qui modifie leur trajectoire et enfin le survol de la Lune. Mais bientôt va se poser une angoissante question : parviendront-ils à se poser sur la Lune ?
