About this listen
Obey the rules. It’s the only way to survive the night in a short story about what hides in the dark by the New York Times bestselling author of The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires.
Marcus grew up believing his father killed his mother—then blamed it on the boogeyman under the bed. Always leave the lights on, his father warned, or the boogeyman will get you. Marcus still heeds the superstition, especially when he invites his new girlfriend over. Is Marcus haunted by a creature or has he just inherited his father’s murderous delusions? The night will tell.
Grady Hendrix’s Ankle Snatcher is part of Creature Feature, a collection of devilishly creepy stories that tingle the spine and twist the mind. They can be read or listened to in one petrifying sitting.

A simple premise executed exceptionally well
In this short story, Hendrix takes the simple, painfully relatable childish fear of “the monster under the bed” and somehow upgrades it for an adult audience. Who knew something so silly could become so genuinely insidious? And in such a short story too.
Creepy. Suspenseful. Gripping. Loved everything about this.

You'll want to keep the lights on after listening to this!
Ankle Snatcher is a short read/listen, which is a creepy horror story that those scared of the dark should avoid, especially at bedtime.
Marcus is on his second date with Tess when she admits that she's not drinking alcohol because her father was an addict. Marcus feels a connection to Tess and tells her about his own parents - his mum was murdered when he was a child by his father. His father told him that the boogeyman had taken his mum and to never sleep without his light on before being locked up for life. When Marcus takes Tess home and fails to turn the lamp on, he finds out that his father wasn't crazy after all and finds himself locked up for murder the same as his father. For a quick read, this book is very well written and didn't leave me with a rushed feeling like some short stories do.

Creepy short story that was performed so well!
Really enjoyed this short story from Grady Hendrix. I love his writing style and that still comes across so strongly despite this being a very short story. It was really well structured and I was completely captivated! The performance was fab also, definitely recommend if you love horror and want a great little creature feature story!
