Everything we had hoped for
Today opinions and results you don’t certainly hear from popular history series. Fun, exciting, and mind-expanding for those willing to open their minds. Captivating History is a favorite of mine.

A bit disjointed
This is really a collection of several shorter books that are separate to the extent that they each have their own beginning and end within the audiobook. This means that it doesn't connect the various descriptions of the civilizations together into one cohesive history. On top of that even within each section the story is a bit disjointed because it will talk about the history in one chapter, the art in another, the language in the next, etc. That means that you're jumping around the centuries a lot and it makes it a bit harder to get a sese of how the whole civilization grew and declined.
That said, there is a lot of good information in here and I got a much better sense of these less-well known civilizations than I did before listening to this audiobook.

liked the book
I particularly liked the later part of the Roman rule and the segue into the Byzantine Empire. Although I knew quite a bit of this history, I did not know much.

very informative
Egypt, Greece, and Rome is a good introduction to the ancient history of the Mediterranean civilizations, and I read to refresh my memory of these cultures. I will be reading portions of this book in years to come and not cover-to-cover as I did now. I particularly liked the literary support used.

A bit thin in places but this history is a wonderf
A bit thin in places but this history is a wonderful overview of ancient Mediterranean history. A good introduction or refresher to people like me who have not read up on ancient western history for what seems like millennia.

Interesting topics
However, the book fulfills its main aim well – of being an introductory overview for the complete newcomer to the subject, Each chapter even comes complete with suggestions for further for the student wishing to undertake research that is more extensive.

Tour of ancient Mediterranean history.
Egypt definitely gets the short straw and is the most glossed over of the three. Honestly, I doubt existing enthusiasts of any of these three ancient cultures will find anything to like here, as it’s not in-depth enough to satisfy.

Serves a good companion to Mathisen's other book. Was very useful and a key part of my Ancient Mediterranean class.

Well Done
I had to read this for a class called the Ancient Mediterranean World. As textbooks go, it was relatively easy to understand.

Like it
Used it for my Ancient Mediterranean class where it played a key role, tied with its primary source companion. Was worded well and tried to cover as much as possible which was helpful, and did a good job of keeping things tied together
