Editor reviews
When Alison Kerby bought a huge Victorian house in the New Jersey town of Harbor Haven, she didn't know that it already contained two permanent residents: eccentric ghosts named Paul and Maxie. So Alison only had one choice. She turned the house into a haunted bed and breakfast for senior citizens looking for a "unique vacation experience". In this second Haunted Guesthouse Mystery, E. J. Copperman's witty and accessible heroine helps solve a murder case - with the help of her paranormal colleagues.
Amanda Ronconi is an experienced comedic performer, and this audiobook is right up her alley. The dialogue, ghostly hijinks, and offbeat escapades are all enhanced by her excellent pacing and varied voices.
Summary
Alison and her resident gumshoe ghost are on their next case when the deceased Scott MacFarlane floats in worried that he accidentally killed a prominent local woman. Turns out she's still alive...that is, of course, until she's murdered - in Alison's house. Now, between the demands of her guests and the arrival of a reality television crew, Alison must find the killer before she sees reality from the other side.

Good story
I love the characters in the story but hope that the narrator never tries to do a Scottish/Irish accent again that was awful. Some really good plot twists and turns that kept me listening

Lighthearted fantasy fun.
This is the second book in the Haunted Guesthouse series. Our ghosts are back with their living counterparts, and let the mystery mayhem begin.
I don't like to comment on the story itself for fear of spoilers, especially as the story is outlined in the Audible summary. However, I do like to comment on the overall story and performance.
The author does a nice job of keeping this lighthearted fun, but with the mystery infused plot woven into the book. There is nothing taxing about the book, but it's great escapism if you want to wile away a few hours.
The narrator does a decent job, and compared to some out there is easy to listen to.
I have the complete series of Haunted Guesthouse mystery books in my Audible library, and have enjoyed them all. Indeed they're ones I will listen to more than once.
Top marks all round.

An unwanted ghost makes for a good mystery
enjoyed this book. This is book two in the series and there is a lot going on, including a lot more ghosts but I loved it. Maxie is still my favourite character, you can't beat a grumpy ghost, she is a real hoot and good for a chuckle. The other characters are fun to and with so much going on at the B&B there is a lot of them, I surprisingly didn't find it confusing as the story is well written and easy to follow. The mystery was very unusual, especially getting hired by a ghost to investigate a death he might have caused but for this haunted B&B it somehow all worked. Looking forward to the next mystery.
Alison's B&B is up and running but her ghostly partner Paul is disappointed with there lack of a case to investigate, so instead of relying on Alison to find one he asks her to investigate a case for a ghost Scott, who thinks he might have killed an old lady. The lady is very much a live and well until she attends a seance at Alison's B&B. Alison has a full house at the time which includes a ghostly tour group and a reality tv film crew, now she just has to work out who would want to kill her. Scott the ghost is no help as he has no idea who hired him to put fright into the old lady in the first place but maybe he holds the key to solving it. Can Alison and her ghostly companions find the killer? Or will the demands of the actors and actresses get in the way.
I liked the narrator. She gave the characters some great voices, including some accents.

Fun Mystery Series
I love these books and have gotten through five so far. The story is your fun, Miss Marple style, mystery with added spooks. Not scary at all but a very good page turner in places.
Can't fault the plot, characters or narration. Very enjoyable listening.

Migraine me! That was a great book.
This book is brilliant. I laughed out loud so many times I lost count. The narrator Amanda Ronconi is fantastic! Fair play to E.J. Cooperman the writing is great, I really have enjoyed this book and rewound a number of times especially with the Reality TV Show bit with migraine used as a replacement for a bad word, so funny. The story was interesting and the setup was very entertaining.

Well written, yet one irritating character trait
There's one problem with the heroine: she's an absolute doormat. Ghosts, exes, her own daughter, basically everybody can just walk all over her. Maybe some readers find this endearing, or at least the author probably does. (Why else would he/she have done it?) It made me more and more uncomfortable, though, the more this aspect of the main character is being stressed while the stories unfold.
Which, incidentally, makes me wonder: is E.J. Copperman ta male or a female writer? Strangely, every bio, every other text about the author seems to carefully avoid this information. Why? It shouldn't matter, I know, but somehow it does. At least a little bit. If E.J. Copperman is a woman, then it's a bit shameful to create such a doormat female character. If he's a guy, I despair a little when it comes to his apparent image of women.
Like I said, this probably shouldn't matter. But it would make this series more enjoyable if the heroine had a little backbone. At least concerning her daughter, maybe. (Maybe only to not set such a bad example of a parent who is so busy trying to be the "bff" that she forgets to be a parent.)
Am I taking a book series that has never been meant to be taken seriously too ... well ... seriously? Probably. Still, it would be great to see some positive character development while the series continues. It has so much else going for it.
