About this listen
Maud is an irascible 88-year-old Swedish woman with no family, no friends, and...no qualms about a little murder. This funny, irreverent story collection by Helene Tursten, author of the Irene Huss Investigation series, features two-never-before translated stories that will keep you laughing all the way to the retirement home.
Ever since her darling father's untimely death when she was only 18, Maud has lived in the family's spacious apartment in downtown Gothenburg rent-free, thanks to a minor clause in a hastily negotiated contract. That was how Maud learned that good things can come from tragedy. Now in her late 80s, Maud contents herself with traveling the world and surfing the net from the comfort of her father's ancient armchair. It's a solitary existence, and she likes it that way.
Over the course of her adventures - or misadventures - this little, bold lady will handle a crisis with a local celebrity who has her eyes on Maud's apartment, foil the engagement of her long-ago lover, and dispose of some pesky neighbors. But when the local authorities are called to investigate a dead body found in Maud's apartment, will Maud finally become a suspect?

Of limited interest but very useful
These stories are good to listen to in the middle of the night when you cannot get to sleep. Turn them down low. I listen to them several times a week and never get to the end.

Very quirky and intriguing
I really enjoyed this audio book very different from my usual choice. Very amusing in a macabre way.

Short stories of a macabre nature
Really enjoyed these short stories of misdirection and murder. Something different, it reminded me of Elenor elephant elderly and gone bad.

The unlikeliness of such happenings
The stories were fun, but annoyingly not chronological and the last two were the same story in the wrong order.

Adorable psychopathic vigilante
Living in Gothenburg myself I loved the small details in these stories. Nice the narrator put a lot of effort in pronunciation of the Swedish names and her voice suited the main character. Just don’t take tram 4 to Saltholmen, 11 it is. ;)

Story
Once you got in to the idea and the story it was good. I almost stopped lisitening after about 10 minutes but I’m pleased I didn’t. It was well worth lustening to the end. However if I had been reading it instead of listening I would have given up much sooner.

Old and bold is listening gold
I really enjoyed these interlinked stories. The narration was excellent and I really did feel I was in Sweden through the places and people. Without spoiling the experience for others I will honestly say I loved Magda; at last a female character in her eighties neither the doting grandmother living out her twilight years or the Swedish Miss Marple exposing the murderer plus some laugh out loud moments too.
