Fantastic narration of a disturbing story
This book entertained but also slightly disturbed me. It was riveting, funny but ultimately quite sad. The narration made it. Sarah did an absolutely amazing job with the multitude of characters I couldn’t believe it was one person at times! Completely absorbing!

Gripping
Right from the get-go, 'All Grown Up' plunges the reader into the rackety, tacky and often desperate world of east end London. Our heroine, Neveah, returns home from school to find her mother's living room littered with semi-clothed people., some of whom she knows, some she doesn't. All of them are half conscious; some still tipsy. They've been partying since chucking out time at the bar where her mother works as a hostess.
Sounds like the opening scene for a story about child neglect, right? Well, maybe, but 'All Grown Up' is much, much more. Because fifteen year old Neveah, we soon learn, has a brain that belies her years - and despite her chaotic family background, she lives a secret life that sees her shucking off her school uniform and with the help of a few good items of clothing and a swipe of lippy, successfully posing as a twenty-something digital freelancer To date, she’s squirrelled away over £7000 towards her university fees – and between GCSE French and essays on Stalin, she’s also having a full blown affair with Giles, a client old enough to be her father.
Cue a story about an older man taking advantage of a vulnerable young woman, right? Well, no – because the novel concentrates more on the wider fallout of the affair and its effect on Giles’ wife Chrissie and their daughter Serena. Chrissie, a teacher, is a recovering rape victim and the narrative details a harrowing account of her experience at the hands of a deranged student. Serena, although the same age, is as naíve as Neveah is savvy, and she falls for Billy, a callow and deluded youth who decides it’s a good idea to video their first ‘time’ together,
Chaos ensues when the video goes viral. Drama, heartbreak and tragedy… and a sort of salvation by the end of the last paragraph. But what elevates this gritty, contemporary novel to literary heights is its genuine empathy for its various, (mostly flawed) characters. The author has an acute ear for their voices and manages to inject laugh-out-loud moments into their story. I listened to the audiobook before reading it in the usual way, and I have special praise for Sarah Bowers and her amazing ability to bring each of the many voices to life.
A definite must-read in my opinion.

Great characters
A,great story that flows well. The characters are interesting and diverse and easy to follow due to the chapters being labelled with their names. Really enjoyed it.
