About this listen

In the seventh book in the Windrush series, Jack is sent to infiltrate the Fenian Brotherhood, who are threatening to cause mutiny in the British Army.

The journey will take him from deepest England to Ireland and across the Atlantic to the United States and Canada. Jack discovers that another nation is using the Fenian cause for its own ends, and gets involved in battles and intrigue.

But what's most worrying of all is the involvement of Helen, Jack's old flame. What is she doing with the Fenians?

Fast paced historical thriller

Whether you are a stalwart fan of Jack Windrush, or you have only just made his acquaintance, you will want to know more about this incredible brave and tenacious man.
If you are a fan of historically accurate fiction and edge of your seat thrillers, get ready to be blown away!
In this 7th book of the Jack Windrush series, we find our hero crossing continents, in pursuit of Fenian terrorists.
Accolades must go to both Malcolm Archibald, for the quality of his research and writing, which is then brought to aural life by the talents of the narrator, who transports us to the different settings and into the very midst of battle as though we were there.
(I finished this audiobook in two long sessions of DIY and I didn't want to put the paintbrush down so kept on painting to keep the story going - I wanted to know what happened next!)

Great narration of favorite character in another fast paced adventure.

Having read the whole series this is the first audible version I've bought. So I was a little worried that it might be jarring to hear someone else’s interpretation of the main characters, who I already had formed images of in my head.

I've found that some narrators either drone on in a monotone manner or over egg their performance in the style of a radio play.

So I was pleasantly relieved to discover that this narrator ,Paul Winter, strikes exactly the right cord.

He has a nice easy to listen to tone and effectively voices the different characters in an easily identifiable style so you're never confused to which character is speaking.

It made listening to the story an easy pleasure

Hopefully they stick with this narrator when next book in the windrush series is released. If so ill be definitely buying it on audible again.

It you've read all the Jack Windrush stories, then you won't be disappointed with this one. If like me you'd never heard of the Irish fienan brotherhood invasion into Canada, then you'll find that part especially fascinating.

A bit of research into those events prior to reading the book may help your understanding of those events.

Those familiar with the past books may be left wondering why Mary wasn't featured as much but it didn't detract overall from what is a great story
