About this listen

No wonder she's been crowned Queen of Cosy Crime' Mail on Sunday

It can be hell in high water!

Drowned brides are like buses: nothing for ages, then two come along at the same time . . . ! Abandoned by husband James, Agatha hops on a plane to the South Pacific, hoping to mend her broken heart. But there she meets a happy honeymooning couple, for whom disaster strikes when, tragically, the bride drowns. Back home, alarm bells start ringing for Agatha when a woman, dressed in a wedding gown, is swept down river. The police say suicide, but Agatha, spurred on by recent memories, particularly her own disastrous marriage, sets out to prove them wrong.

Agatha is on form in this installment. Kicking her bad habits and gaining the first real independence since moving to the Cotswolds, this book is a great step-change. I am so very fond of the character of Agatha, perhaps because she is played so suberbly by Penelope Keith in these audiobooks and in the BBC radio adaptations. This book has brought out a feeling of respect for her too.

A refreshing change

Fun, lots of twists and turns, does exactly what it says on the tin. MCBeaton at her finest.

Penelope Keith is Agatha Raisin. I love all these books, a bit like Miss Marple but with a lot less perfect heroine and she gets to have a romantic life. Cosy, and that's why I like them.

Non Demanding entertainment

Love the Agatha Raisin books. Great to listen to at work. Just as good to listen to as to read. Penelope Keith is perfect as a narrator.

Agatha is a delight.
