Kim Hunters Großvater Rufus durchquert als einer der ersten nach fast einem Jahrtausend die Sternstraße, welche in die sagenumwobenen Vergessenen Sektoren führt. Aber dann wird das Forschungsschiff angegriffen -- die Regierung fürchtet eine Invasion, und befiehlt, die Sternstraße zu schließen. Jeder hält die Expedition für vernichtet -- nur Kim ist fest entschlossen, aufzubrechen und Rufus zurückzuholen.
Auf dem Planeten Celestine sucht sie Hilfe: Käpt'n Joshua Moon, einen alten Freund ihres Großvaters und Kommandant des Sternenschiffs Vimana. Ob er Kim allerdings helfen wird, ist ungewiss -- und die Zeit läuft ihr davon...
