Summary
You can’t run from destiny.
Gavin Randall hasn’t been home in nearly 30 years. Upon his return, he steps into a world he never knew existed and awakens dormant powers to discover that he’s one of the rarest beings in the supernatural community - a Stone Born. Now his very existence is a threat to the established order.
A mysterious death pulls him in further, forcing him to face off against family and foe alike. Gavin must reconcile the past he knew with a strange world of magic, along the way encountering new creatures and dangers he’s never experienced.
Will Gavin discover the truth? Or will this new world swallow him whole before he uncovers who he really is and who wants his uncle dead?

One of my favourite books this year!
Brilliant. Such a great, well balanced story! I’ve got a feeling that now all the intro is out of the way, that book 2 will be even better and I can’t wait to start it. Everything is just so well balanced; even though there’s plenty of magic, everything feels hard-fought and nothing comes easily, there’s plenty of mystery too to keep you interested.
I’d not heard anything narrated by Paul before and I was so happy that’s changed. His character voices (male and female) are all really good and his pacing is great!
Definitely looking out for book 2!!
This is my honest opinion of a free review copy.

So Good!
It's rare that I find an Urban Fantasy novel/series, completely out of the blue, like this! I usually go for stuff that's been heavily recommended by other respected authors or narrators. This author hit all of my favorite tropes, and still managed to throw in some surprises! The narrator had a little bit of a rocky start, but came into his own within a few chapters, and despite some weird breathing in the beginning, managed to completely win me over within a few chapters. This book was superb, on all levels, especially for a new-to-me author and narrator! Well done!

Great New Story
This has a great spin on the underground world of magic. The idea of the Stone Born was great in its self. But everything else that was comes along with this story made it that much for enjoyable for me.

Wasn't expecting this! Wow!
I got this book on the recommendation of a friend. I didn't read the description or listen to the audio sample, which is something I always do. I had never even heard of this author or narrator. I didn't even look at the genre. I just went on blind Faith because I know my friend and I have similar taste in books. A few minutes into this book I was thinking it was a military story, which I thought would be cool. After about 30 minutes it got much cooler! I wasn't expecting this at all! This turned out to be one of the best urban fantasy novels I've listened to in a while. Great narration by Paul Clewell. I'm looking forward to the rest of this series!

Narrator killed it
I wanted to like this story. It has a lot of promise. But I couldn’t get past the narrator voice. His characterizations were good but his voice was too affected. Probably just my personal preference, unfortunately I couldn’t get past it.

Interesting lore & perspective
The author’s perspective of historical characters and creativity made the story somewhat interesting. I wish that had carried over to the various plots as many were unimaginative and predictable. I’ll purchase book 2 as it may be that this initial book was simply the setup and the other books leave the predictable and become more engaging
