Summary
Death left a surprise on her doorstep....
Cascade Lorne, newly blossomed witch, thinks the dust is finally settling. The hottie next door is her official sweetie, her magical powers are no longer threatening to burn her from the inside out, and Cas’ passion project — renovating a boutique hotel — lights her up with joy.
But even before the grand opening, a killer strikes and death leaves a gruesome surprise on Cascade’s doorstep. There’s a stream of possible suspects, especially the odd guest whose eyes shine like a wolf’s in the light of the moon.
Cascade’s fresh start is put in jeopardy as she’s thrust into a new mystery with fanatics desperate to hide their secrets — including someone near and dear to her heart.
Will Cas be able to shine light on the truth or will a homicidal felon remain camouflaged and prepped to kill again?

A bright spark
I really enjoyed this book but then again I am loving the series, so there was no doubt this book would be any different. This is book three in the series and you don't need to read the books in order to enjoy them but if you don't you are missing out on a real treat full of quirky characters and humours antics. The plot line for the series is unusual in the fact that Cascade is late coming into her powers and despite turning fifty is trying to come to turns with magic in the world and how to control her powers. As you can imagine this leads to some amusing backfires , then throw in a couple of vampires, playful pixies, a talking cat, a fitness freak for a mentor and a human family and things are going to get interesting. I liked the mystery and the murderer was never even on my radar. I can't wait for the next book.
It is time to choose the next member of the high counsel and with so many visitors in town to take part in the conclave, Cascade is asked to host a number of members, despite her boutique hotel not being open for business. The renovations isn't up to the high standards of someone of the guests and surprising Waverly, the grand council secretary, is the person to stand up for Cascade and in doing so she becomes the prime suspect when the complaining guest is murdered. The victim had reached her high position by ferreting out other people's secrets and using it against them. Would someone kill to keep there secret hidden? Her mentor has her on a fitness regime, as she needs to be in better shape before she can start to learn magic. Cascade also has he hands full when a family of normals have no where else to turn and arrive at the same time as the fun practical joke playing pixies. Can Cascade find the time to catch a killer? Can she afford not to?
I like the narrator and think she weaves her own sort of magic because listening to this book the hours just flew by in a blink.
