About this listen

All Delora ever wanted was to disappear.

Thrown into the Veil for a crime she committed, Delora was discarded by the world. Although afraid of her oncoming demise, she accepts it as it would be a worldly escape from her problems. She didn’t expect that she would wake up from her deadly fall, nor that the person who saved her would be a Duskwalker.

She’s wary about him at first, but Delora begins to realise there’s more to him than just a faceless monster.

All he ever wanted was a name.

After discovering that humans can be kept as companions, he begins planning for the day he finds his own bride. He still lacks humanity and there is much to learn first. One morning when leaving his cave, a human suddenly crashes into him from the sky. Broken and sleeping, he gets to work on healing the woman.

It doesn’t take him long to understand she’s wounded in a way his magic can’t heal.

But will he be able to gain her affections, or will she come to hate him as he stumbles his way through learning about her – and more importantly, himself?

New favourite duskwalker, but hated everything else

Loved the first book. But book 1 and 2 are written for very different people. Was apprehensive about this one due to reviews saying the FMC is annoying and yeah kinda true.. but I absolutely loved our MMC duskwalker. I guessed it was gonna be about nameless and honestly his story was better than I could have ever imagined. I fell in love with him instantly. His progression was beyond cute and it broke my heart a time or two. For him alone I would have rated this book 5/5.

Be warned, it is absolutely nothing like the first book! This book just felt like I was getting a lesson about gender pronouns, mental health and fat acceptance. Like it was trying to be inclusive of everything and I didn’t have the patience for it lol. Felt like the author was trying to appease every single gen Z/X reader out there. I had no interest in reading about these issues and the only reason I bought the book was to follow the ongoing world development since there was obviously a lot that’s yet to happen. If all the books are gonna be so vastly different, they’re obviously not going to appease to all readers - for that reason they should have been standalone books.

Towards the end the writing becomes more and more basic. If it wasn’t for the 🌶️ scenes I would have thought it was written for children.

Seems silly that there’s already 7 books out but only 2 audiobooks? Looking forward to when they’re released though.

if you loved the first book, trust me you'll like this

I enjoyed the story progression, it's so different from the first book which is really nice to see. It brings up a lot of the loose ends from the first book so you still feel connected to that world while diving into completely new characters.
I love this Dustwalker!!!

I can’t get enough of this narrator

Summary

Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5

Spicy rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ 4/5

Fluff rating: 💖💖 2/5

I’m really enjoying this series so far however did struggle a little at the start of this book with the pacing as it was a little slow to get going and I didn’t gel with Delora as a character for quite a while.

I definitely changed my mind somewhat later in book. Magnar however was a delight to read and watching him grow and change as a duskwalker was so sweet and fun to read.

The themes around mental health in this book were interestingly explored and a change of pace from book 1.

Definitely going to stick to reading the rest of the series.

The world building continues beautifully

And so does the story.
This book brings in a character who is both easy and challenging to empathise with. So many insecurities we deal with, especially as plus sized people.
The MFM really challenges any internalised misogyny we may harbour, what we think are acceptable actions for different genders.
The narration of the MFM was a little grating at times but overall this book is a wonderful next installment for this series. I look forward to what happens next!

Oh, and the spice is still top notch!

Dragging story

I grew up to be annoyed with the pathetic female character that stayed the same whining person across the story. I also grew disliking the female characters voice. A bit disappointed in the book.

perfect addition

Not what I was expecting after the first book but sooo good! It's great that it's it's own story not a repetition of the first (which is really common in this genre) but also adds to the first book story, the world building and the under lining story. The spice is great but the warm and fuzzies is just *chefs kiss*. The character growth is really well done it's really natural throughout the book. 10/10 would reccomend this series is you want to read an actual story not repetitive garb

Loved the ml

I loved the ml, he’s a real sweetheart and the story it self is super cute. But I did think the fl was rather whiny the whole way through.

Dusk walkers to die for!

Ahhh yet another dusk walker book that was so cute and adorable, I want one so badly for myself (lol) love the audiobooks and Wolfgang does such a good voice for them. Recommend if you like spicy, possessive monsters as well as cute and fluffy ones as they come as a package. Cannot recommend it enough it was yet another thoroughly enjoyable read/listen from Opal reyne.
