Summary

A Taste of Love Story

Sebastian Franklin has waited a long time to prove himself as front of the house manager at Cafe Belgie, but his first night in charge while Darryl, his boss, is on vacation is less than a success. The restaurant is robbed at closing time, and the Good Samaritan who foiled the robber comes with his own complications.

Robert Fortier is the county’s newest judge, and a reluctant one at that. He is well aware that a public life is not always easy, especially when your personal life makes you the target of a media frenzy. Still, Robert enjoys Sebastian’s company, and Sebastian is never without a serving of happiness and flair for his favorite public figure. But Sebastian is not without his issues either - family chaos and an ex in trouble will put the pressure on as they struggle for even footing in this new romance.

Good light reading

Exactly what I was expecting. Good, light reading. The story can be more realistic but it is pleasant enough. Money well spent.

Just okay!

while the narrator was good, the storyline was not enough to make this listen more than "just okay". If you are looking for a read which keeps your interest and has you wondering what will happen next then this is not it!

Had to warm up to the narrator - but a good story!

Where does A Serving of Love rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Although I thoroughly enjoyed a 'Serving of Love' – some of Andrew Grey's other writings (the 'love means...' Series) a bit more. Overall, a good read!

Have you listened to any of Jeff Gelder’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first time listening to this narrator. It took me a while to warm up to him… But once I did, I found that I enjoyed the story more & more.

Any additional comments?

I loved that Andrew Grey wrote a current story - which allowed me to relate to the characters well. He's a good author & I look forward to reading more selections by him.

Meet Dramatic

I love the dramatic way Sebastian and Robert meet. While they seem an unlikely couple on the surface they fit so well together. I also like Robert's bravery and willingness to put his relationship first.
I listened to the audio version and really enjoyed it.

Great Book!

Loved the second book in this series. I am glad I listened to another book by Jeff Gelder. He did a good job on the narration. I hated the narration he did for the Range series, especially the character Dakota, but no such issues with this one. I’m looking forward to the next installment!

Very enjoyable

You really can’t go wrong with anything by Andrew Grey. He is great at giving us great stories with the perfect blending of romance and drama without being to heavy on the angst.
Sebastian and Robert were a sweet couple. I loved the pet name Robert have Sebastian.
I enjoyed the narration for the most part. I’m pretty familiar with Jeff Gelder so I know that he doesn’t have a broad range of “voices” but he still makes the story enjoyable to listen too.

Not as good as the others

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The story isn't as engaging as the others by Andrew Grey. The emotions of the characters didn't feel genuine and the entire romance was too fast. There wasn't enough time (calendar-wise) for the internal struggles of a guy coming out of the closet and dealing with public life.

The story makes a point of Robert's height and then doesn't use it in anyway. It notes Gregory's illness, but that moves from mild to severe too quickly to be able to identify with him or others nearby.

And the love scenes don't feel realistic, especially for a first love.

What didn’t you like about Jeff Gelder’s performance?

The entire performance felt like someone had cut out fractions of the seconds, or was playing it at 1.25. Without the worded cue (Robert said, Billy said, etc...) the characters were indistinguishable.

Any additional comments?

Overall, like the author's works, but this one felt flat.

Uplifting

Very nice love story! I enjoy listening to stories like this that do not focus on negativity and despair as if we do not have enough of them in the real world!
