About this listen

The rhythms of this novel are the rhythms of the land. A Place on Earth resonates with variations played on themes of change; looping transitions from war into peace, winter into spring, browning flood destruction into greening fields, absence into presence, lost into found.©2001 Wendell Berry (P)2008 christianaudio.com Contemporary Fiction Fiction Genre Fiction

Initially I struggled with keeping track om the characteristics of the characters (always harder with audio books I believe), which meant I lost some of the nuances of the initial stories. Eventually I felt like I got to know them and loved how it all came together into a community of people with a full range of behaviors and feelings.

The only thing that annoyed me a bit was that I felt like the I didn't get to know the women better. It would have been a even more rewarding portrait of this place on earth. The actor used pretty much the same "soft" voice for all the women. I think it would have helped to give them more character and breadth.

Still, lovely book. Enjoyed it.

Slow, intruiging, solmn
