Summary

Sally Urwin and her husband, Steve, own High House Farm in Northumberland, which they share with Mavis the sheepdog, one very fat pony and many, many sheep. Set in beautiful, wild landscape, and in use for generations, it's the perfect setting for Sally's (sometimes brutally) honest and charming account of farming life.

From stock sales to lambing sheds, and out in the fields in snow and on hot summer days, A Farmer's Diary reveals the highs, lows and hard work involved in making a living from the land.

The unvarnished truth

Such honesty about the ups and downs of farming life. But it doesn't mean it's not funny

good read

interesting read. on balance bit same as Yorkshire's shepherdess. a little 2 dimensional. no depth to the story. I feel there is more interesting stuff that has been missed out of this book than included in it

Enjoyable listen

Extremely good account of farm life and the daily jobs that have to be completed make you realise how tough farming can be. This diary gives an accurate picture of daily life on a farm and the responsibility that goes with this job looking after livestock. I enjoyed the tales told especially with the humorous bits which showed that farming can be fun as well as hard work. I imagine that although there are a lot of ups and downs that this life must be rewarding and fulfilling and would love to have the opportunity to try it.

Wonderfully written, charming, funny and real

One of my favourite Audible purchases. Sally writes with humour, authenticity and touching honesty. Janine's narration is absolutely flawless and I will look out for her work again.

The book takes through a year on a Northumbrian mixed farm and shares the worry, joy, anxiety and contentment of a farming family, assorted sheep and neighbours and one fat pony.

If you liked James Herriot or enjoyed Amanda Owen then you will love Sally Urwin.

Sweet, Wholesome and Real! From farmer to farmer!

A true, honest story with life's ups and downs but written with a light touch and always with a happy ending. I live a life with many similarities, and sometimes you can feel like the only crazy farm girl, but with book you gain a like-minded friend! Beautiful!
