Summary
THE NUMBER ONE BESTSELLER
A return to the world of Samantha Shannon's Sunday Times and New York Times-bestselling The Priory of the Orange Tree
Bloomsbury presents A Day of Fallen Night, by Samantha Shannon, read by Ellie Kendrick, Sheila Atim, Thoren Ferguson and Hanako Footman. This audiobook features an exclusive interview with Samantha Shannon and Sunday Times bestselling author of The Final Strife and Faebound, Saara El-Arifi.
Tunuva Melim is a sister of the Priory. For fifty years, she has trained to slay wyrms – but none have appeared since the Nameless One, and the younger generation is starting to question the Priory's purpose.
To the north, in the Queendom of Inys, Sabran the Ambitious has married the new King of Hróth, narrowly saving both realms from ruin. Their daughter, Glorian, trails in their shadow – exactly where she wants to be.
The dragons of the East have slept for centuries. Dumai has spent her life in a Seiikinese mountain temple, trying to wake the gods from their long slumber. Now someone from her mother's past is coming to upend her fate.
When the Dreadmount erupts, bringing with it an age of terror and violence, these women must find the strength to protect humankind from a devastating threat.
Intricate and epic, A Day of Fallen Night sweeps readers back to the world of A Priory of the Orange Tree, showing us a course of events that shaped it for generations to come.
Chosen as a book of 2023 by the Metro, Cosmopolitan, Nerd Daily, PinkNews and Waterstones

What a story!!
This is really a fantasy epic for the ages and a very satisying prequel to the events of priory. I also find these books a bit of a redemption for those of us who have slogged through and cringed at misogynistic portrayals of women, romance, and pregnancy in our readings. It's handled very thoughtfully and realistically here, managing to interest and tug at the heartstrings. There's a good balance between the characters, the politics, and the overarching dread of war through this book.
One small drawback on the audiobook side is that Dumai's narrator opts for a very dreamy voice the whole way through, which does start to grate a bit as the hours go by. That said, the rest of the narration is great.

Fallen Night
Well, I have tried to stick with it but by chapter 3 I really could not bear the narration any longer!
The narrator for the first chapter........I do not know how to describe her, my daughter thought she should be doing porn novels?
The content of the first chapter I enjoyed but again by chapter 3 the narration coupled with how predictable the dialogue was meant i could go no further.
At some point i will buy the book as I think the story itself would be enjoyable.

Amazing Read!!
I really enjoyed this story, and loved the concept of three story tellers, it really suited this style of narrating from multiple points of view. I would love more books that employ this production style

Enjoyed the narration but not the story
I absolutely loved Priory Of The Orange Tree but this book didn't give me the same feel. I loved the cast of narrators and they were excellent, but there was too much world building in the story for me. None of the characters really intrigued me either. Definitely well written though.

Beautiful world
Narrators for west and south are good but the east narrator speaks a bit too slow and has an odd sultry/slither to their dictation which didn’t make sense for the characters she was narrating (and was mildly annoying). Enjoyed the story, deffo read priory prior to this one. It gives a good basis for the story / world. I did occasionally get lost between who was doing what and why (a lot more characters than priory) but I just went with it lol. I’m also sure I missed some plot lines because so much was going on.

worth the listen
In a day of fallen night, this explains bits from the piory of the orange tree. This one is more from the priory point of view. Tunuva is a sister of the priory trained as a worria to slay the nameless one. But had he not returned, they questioned the priorys purpose. with the dreadmount eruption bringing with it an age of terror and violence.
I thought this was a great part to tell of the pirory of the orange tree. It answered some questions. There was a twist in this story. The bonding of the dragin. The queen out fighting for her people. This novel just followed for me. I was grip into this book and couldn't put it down. It had you feeling all emotion throughout.
This is a large book, and the size was daunting. But please dont let that put you off. If you read the piory of the orange tree, then do read this. If bot read either, then read them both. They are worth a read.

Great Prequel. Glad I read it second.
Story- I read and a listened to this book. But I must admit the first few chapters were a little challenging. I don’t know why but I had to repeat many quite a few times. I did find physically reading the book far easier, esp when the initial east chapters were being narrated. And then the story kicks in. I was invested!! The character growth and was so beautifully done.
Narration. The only issue I had was that East was ready really slowly! And it’s not a voice that can be sped up. And I read slowly, but I could read a 30 minute listen in 20 minutes. It may not seem like much. But when the story starts with east, it did make it a little challenge to stay alert…
And the names were pronounced differently to the priory. Example, in priory it was pronounced “Suh-brahn” and in this “Sab-ran” or in priory it was “Naa-eem-athon” and in this “Naa-ee-mathun”… but then the author also says names differently to the narrators, Samatha pronounces a name as “Eed” and the narrator as “E-ad”…
And when one commits to nearly 50+ hours of listening, it would be great to have the same flow…
Saying that, I loved it! I was invested and feel like iv left something vital behind…

Wow, this book is just epic! As a prequel to The Priory of the Orange Tree, I read it first and I couldn't put it down! Everything was beautifully written with so much detail and it was just brilliant! Can't wait for more in the series xx

Lots of descriptions, not much action
I’m sure this is good in book form, but 7 hours into the story and with a host of different readers, different characters and locations I am totally lost. At least listening helps me to empty my mind and go to sleep
