About this listen
France's favourite country cop, Bruno, faces a dangerous threat to the town he polices and the people he protects. Loved by millions, the Dordogne Mysteries are the perfect combination of mystery and escapism.
The event of the Périgord tourist season is to be the re-enactment of the liberation of the historic town of Sarlat from the English in 1370. But it all goes wrong when the man playing the part of the French general is almost killed in the heat of the action.
The immediate question for chief of police Bruno Courrèges is was this an accident - or deliberate? The stakes rise when Bruno learns that the man, Kerquelin, was running Frenchelon, the secret French electronic intelligence base nearby, after being recruited from a brilliant Silicon Valley career. His old Silicon Valley colleagues have been invited to stay at the luxurious local chateau of Rouffillac as his guests to enjoy the Sarlat show.
As he investigates, Bruno discovers that Kerquelin's wound was faked, that he is alive and well and secretly negotiating a massive deal to build a semi-conductor industry in France. But then a whole new and dangerous player emerges, determined to nip the deal in the bud.

Over too quickly
My only criticism is that it should be twice as long! When’s the next one?

Classic Bruno
Loved this and delighted to see that I can soon get the "Bruno" cookbook. Delighted too that the story takes into account that Bruno's readers as well as his friends are finding the whole Isabel thing quite tedious now 😁

Another in a great series
A twisty intriguing plot, by an author obviously familiar with politics, social issues, science, history and international relations. The characters are so believable one thinks one knows them, lovely side stories, and recipes! Extra special for me as based in an area of France I know. All enhanced by the superb performance of the narrator Peter Noble. J'adore cette série, merci beaucoup Martin, et Peter.

Another superb story; exciting, heartwarming and perfectly narrated by Peter Noble. Too short! Too long awaited. More, more, more!

Possibly the best Bruno story yet.
Martin Walker immerses you in a world of political intrigue which he knows intimately. At the same time you become part of the little bit of heaven which is St Denis and the Perigord. Wonderful writing, excellently read by Peter Noble.

Supercop Bruno!
The book is the usual Bruno fare; France, friends & food underhand dealings from International dark forces as a delicious side dish.

A wonderful listen
The insights into international politics provided a brilliant backdrop for an intriguing story which saw the return of some previous characters and storylines and introduced some interesting new ones also. As always the Dordogne brought the colour and flavours of the region to the story whilst Peter Nobles narration was outstanding as always.

Very good series
A very good story and the super narration. The whole story is enjoyable made more so by the narrator, His voices and accents are wonderful. There is no confusion with the different characters and the story flows beautifully.

Bruno
Reliable as always, travel guide, recipes and excitement and action but not much Isabel this time. Poor Florence. Will she be lucky next time? A good reading too.
