In the absurd land of Nth, Thisby Thestoop can be found within the forlorn walls of Castle Grimstone, down the precarious steps of the Black Mountain dungeon, up to her nose in griffon toenails, gnoll spittle, and troll meat (to give to them, not made of them). When the prince and princess arrive for a Royal Inspection, the much too good-looking Princess Iphigenia winds up lost in the tunnels of the dungeon - without her guards, her staff, or her younger twin brother - and it's up to Thisby to guide the princess safely.

Story
In Gelia City, magic is music: a constant ever-changing melody known as the strains. Hereditary ability to use the strains divides the city into two classes: the wealthy Highmost, who can access the full potential of the strains, and the common tradesmen, who are limited to mundane spells, known as beggar magic. With the help of the strains, common teen Leilani rescues and befriends a gifted Highmost girl, Zebedy.
Summary
Henry Noble carries a heavy load.
For the two years since the disappearance of his father, he has toiled as the family's chief breadwinner.
Protector of his mother and two obnoxious younger brothers, he finds himself trapped in the drudgery of a boring job counting the King's gold, all the while dreaming of a life of magic and wizardry.
When a glimmer of light appears, he snatches at it only to stumble into treachery and deceit. Henry and his timid friend Peter are forced to embark upon the scariest journey of their lives. Secretly wishing their fearless friend D.C. was with them, their dread is overshadowed only by the sticky ending they know lurks around every corner.
An epic fantasy about courage and passion, friendship and ingenuity, A Bookkeeper's Guide to Practical Sorcery delivers such a no-nonsense description of the mechanics of magic, you'll wonder why you weren't taught it at school.

Fantastic
I was a backer for the Kickstarter of this audiobook.
After having the pleasure of meeting Miss Russell, and listening to the audiobook of her Elite novel, I decided to back the Kickstarter and see what the end result was. The story is fantastic, with characters you root for and some great dramatic moments plus a couple of funny bits too. The narration is spot on, the varying voices really sell the performance and make the listen that much more enjoyable. This has been one of the few times backing a Kickstarter did not end up leaving me feel disappointed.
