Summary

Amazing choice of words and metaphors

Unusual sequence of events in 1915-1946 tells a story of Soviet Germans, their ways of life and changes brought by the Bolsheviks through the eyes of an ordinary school teacher. The main character is so complex and yet so simple, evolves throughout the whole story standing up to the challenges and persevering despite everything while helping others. It is a sad story of the horrible years of the Soviet republic. The main heroes are gentle and strong. The narrator is good, but a bit too slow, so I listened to the book at a higher speed.
