The Fenix Projects is Katie's debut novel. She began writing fictional stories based on true events at the age of 10. After graduate school, she started working on the first outlines of The Fenix Projects. After researching the issue of sex trafficking in the Pacific Northwest, she volunteered with an organization focused on anti-trafficking advocacy and awareness in Portland, Oregon. Passionate about edutainment – education through entertainment--she views fiction as a tool to bring awareness to real issues and challenges where work and commitment is needed to effect change. She enjoys weaving fictional stories of main characters and backgrounds around real issues, based on true stories. Katie has worked in corporate marketing and as a communications instructor for several years with a Master’s degree from Washington State University. She also consults on storytelling and branding for entrepreneurs and small business owners. Currently, she’s volunteering in an online platform dedicated to connecting women from around the world and sharing their stories. She’s obsessed with movies and books, has an affinity for hosting annual Oscar parties, and enjoys hiking, dancing, and cooking when she’s not writing.
