John P. Lynch has had rheumatoid arthritis since 1959. From 1978 to 2007, he was in the private practice of law, specializing in plaintiff personal injury cases, estate planning, and probate. In 2004, he formed The Rheumatoid Arthritis Project, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization whose principal mission is to help find the cure for juvenile arthritis. Since 2001, he has been a volunteer advocate and fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation's Great West Region. The region has honored him with its 2002 Advocacy Award and 2009 Inspirational Leadership Award. In 2013 he was the region's honoree for the Spokane Jingle Bell Run & Walk. Through the foundation's annual Advocacy Summits in Washington, D.C., John and others helped secure Medicare coverage of self-injected biological drugs for inflammatory arthritis. In the U.S. Congress and the state legislatures, foundation members raise awareness about arthritis, especially juvenile arthritis, advocating for the appropriation of sufficient public resources to prevent, control, and cure this chronic, painful, and disabling condition.
