About this listen
Olivia Waterhouse just got drafted. Problem is, she isn't being forced into the Army, she's been chosen as a Kindred bride. The Kindred are huge alien warriors;a race of genetic traders whose population is ninety-five percent male. After saving Earth from the threat of invasion they demand a reward--the right to find brides among the population. Baird is a Beast Kindred who recently escaped imprisonment and torture. Through the torment and pain only one thing kept him sane; the thought of finding and claiming his bride,Olivia. His need to possess her is a burning intensity that threatens to consume them both. Angry at having her future and her family taken away from her, Liv vows to resist. But Baird isn't going to make it easy for her. Every week he is allowed to touch Liv more and more intimately and according to the contract she signed, she has to let him. She's determined to resist him but his touch sets her on fire. What's a girl to do? Olivia Waterhouse has been Claimed.

An Intriguing Read!
This is the first book in intriguing paranormal/alien romance. I was recommended this book by Audible due to my browsing history. I decided to give it a try.
This audiobook is narrated by Anne Johnstonbrown. Although she read this book clearly and succinctly, I found her interpretation of Olivia a little grating. I am not overly fond of whiny female protagonists. Unfortunately, this is how Anne Johnstonbrown's interpretation of Olivia's character comes across as.
Olivia Waterhouse is ordinary human who finds herself conscripted into a contract with one of the Kindred, an alien species that has made a deal with the governments of Earth in return for protection from a rival alien race, the Scourge. I liked her feisty and determined resistance as she struggles with her attraction for Baird.
Baird is a Beast Kindred and is determined to claim Olivia as his bride. I really like this man, he is a warrior with a warm heart. His patience with Olivia's resistance is stretched a little thin at times, but he is gentle with her as he tries to break down her walls.
This story is told through the eyes of Liv and Baird, although Liv's twin sister, Sofia, and Baird's half brother, Sylvan also have their say. Right from the start, the story intrigued me. Aliens who require human females to help keep their population up sounds like fun, right? I liked the premise. However, the execution left a little to be desired at times. I kept thinking that Olivia could have done things a little differently. Nevertheless, I found the story entertaining. This book is full of funny incidents and misunderstandings that had me either grinning or giggling. The massage mat called a "Touch Me" was in one scene that had me giggling. However, the sexual tension between these two is steaming! The contract that Liv inadvertently entered into with Baird has several rules that have to be followed in weekly increments until the month is up, culminating in a mating. I found myself feeling sorry for Baird, as he truly cares for Liv, though she fights for her freedom at every step. I suppose I would fight too, if I was forced into a marriage/mating contract with an almost stranger (they have been dream sharing). As they become closer, things start heating up and the seduction gets hotter and hotter. The language the author used makes this book more erotica than erotic, as Baird is always mentioning or thinking what he would like to do with Liv in the bedroom, and Liv is no better with her thoughts. In a way, this turned me off rather than on. I like erotic romance but, this became a little too much even for me. I reached the end of the story with mixed feelings. I am not sure if I will continue this series in audiobook, even though the ending had me intrigued about Sofia's and Sylvan's story, Hunted. I may read it instead of listening to it.
Evangeline Anderson has written an intriguing alien romance. I love her fast paced writing style and the flow was wonderful. Her characters are lifelike and likable. I would consider reading more of her books in the future.
Due to the explicit sexual language and scenes, I do not recommend this book to younger readers. I do, however, recommend this book if you love New Adult, Erotic Paranormal or Contemporary Romance and Erotica genres. - Lynn Worton

So much fun.
Any additional comments?
This book was so much fun to listen to. It was mad and weird and great. It was also hot and sexy. I can wait to listen to the next one. The only little niggle I had was the narrator has a voice that kept conjuring images of Liza Minnelli. That made it a little crazier for me. The book left me in great form and giggling to myself long after it had finished.

Poor performance
I read this series some time ago and enjoyed it so was happy to buy the audiobook. However I just couldn't get to grips with this version and think it is because the heroine has such a whiney voice. In the book she is quite feisty and so this high pitched whine took away my interpretation of the story and left me disappointed. I won't buy more if the same narrator is used.

Love the Kindred books!
Absolutely love Evangeline Anderson's Kindred bride books. However I am forced to read the first ones on paper. because Mackenzie Cartwright's voice is the biggest turn off ever. Her voice as a kindred warrior makes me
