Summary

Weeks ago, Andre Cobb received a much-needed liver transplant.

He's ready for his life to finally begin, until one night, when he passes out and wakes up somewhere totally unexpected - in 1969, where he connects with a magnetic boy named Michael.

And then, just as suddenly as he arrived, he slips back to present-day Boston, where the family of his donor is waiting to explain that his new liver came with a side effect - the ability to time travel. And they've tasked their youngest son, Blake, with teaching Andre how to use his unexpected new gift.

Andre splits his time bouncing between the past and future - between Michael and Blake. Michael is everything Andre wishes he could be, and Blake, still reeling from the death of his brother, Andre's donor, keeps him at arm's length despite their obvious attraction to each other.

Torn between two boys, one in the past and one in the present, Andre has to figure out where he belongs - and more importantly who he wants to be - before the consequences of jumping in time catch up to him and change his future for good.

LGBTQ and time travel - mixed together?

Rather good this, and a great 'mash up' of genres.

There's a lot of time travel fiction out there, for every age group, and to place a same-sex love story in one seemed, to me anyway, refreshing. It gave things a different perspective.

In contemporary America, an aspiring medical student fresh from his life-saving liver transplant finds he has travelled back in time 50 years. To a very different world, meeting a very different young man, to whom he is instantly attracted.

But of course, the present soon pulls him back, and an explanation of sorts is on hand - his new liver came from a family with the ability to travel in time. Yes you must suspend disbelief. Andre has to, as it's going to happen again, and without the donor's brother to teach Andre how to control this ability, he could be in trouble.

The scene is then set for some interesting conversations about same-sex treatment in 1969 versus today, and of course an inevitable love triangle.

Some of the journey through this story is fairly obvious, I knew the eventual path that would be taken, but I did enjoy the male-only love story, how relationships were built and wondering just how things would end - knowing that with a time travel story we would most likely know long-term effects on characters.

Good teen fare, something a little different. Not as fun as Back to the Future, but enough heart to move. Enjoyed the audiobook version, not a problem to keep up with the story.

With thanks to Nudge Books for providing a sample Audible copy.

Beautiful Time-Travel Novel

I rarely leave reviews but this story was so good!! It touched on quite a few issues ranging from lgbqt+ to race to familial expectations. I loved it all, and the narrator really brought everything, each individual character to life. Can't wait to see what else this author has in store!!
