About this listen
The struggle for North Africa was unlike any other campaign of World War II. The desert proved a real test of generalship, pitting Germany's Erwin Rommel against Britain's Bernard Montgomery and America's George Patton. Here, from award-winning military historian Stephen W. Sears, is the dramatic story of the generals, politicians, and soldiers who changed the course of the war.

Is this really read by a person?
I'm sure this would make a compelling read. However, the narration is so monotonous and the pronunciation in places, so bad, it just becomes annoying. It even got to the point where I believe it may have been read by one of those speech recognition "bots".
I really tried to persevere, but eventually got sick of the dull monologue and capitulated.

Fine for an overview
A brief overview of Africa from 40 to 43. No great detail but fine for a freebie. Only real downside is the narration. Why he felt the need to pronounce Rommel as RRHHOMMEL each time is beyond me.

Narration is interesting - as the other review store, is this a human voice? Also nothing new ( to me ) to learn here. Mustn’t grumble though; undemanding listen and free.

I really enjoyed this. But weird pronunciation.
Unlike other reviews I thought the narrator was fine apart from weird pronunciation of key characters names, especially Rommel the pronunciation of which was extremely weird (was he taking the piss?). He also struggled with Tobruk and a few others. For the most part my interest was held and I liked the delivery and thought it was a good short history of a dramatic and important period of WW2.
