Summary

Murder, a bloodsucking client, and a sexier-than-sin agent. Life just got deadlier.

My life as an avian shifter and "acquirer" of fantastical things is dangerously sexy and fun. At least until someone beats me to my latest mark, and I'm blamed for a gruesome murder I most certainly did not commit.

Now, I've got a choice to make. I can get taken in by the hotter-than-hell agent sent by the Death Enforcement Agency or wait for my bloodsucking client to realize I've failed at his job. I don’t like either door, so I'll take the window instead.

Time to track down the real killer and clear my name.

Because if I don’t solve this murder fast, then I might just be facing a lifetime in a grim reaper's prison. Or worse, a lifetime of servitude to my client, a vampire who’s turning out to be far more dangerous than I realized.

Discover the thrill of the chase and the excitement of the supernatural in this best-selling urban fantasy series, full of danger, slow-burn romance, and a strong-willed avian shifter who won't back down. With twists and turns at every corner, you won't be able to stop listening to this book. Get your copy today and join the adventure!
Fans of Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunters, Ilona Andrews’ Hidden Legacy, or Seanan McGuire’s InCryptid series will find The Last Phoenix a delightful new addition to the urban fantasy romance genre.

Wings of Fire is the first book of seven in The Last Phoenix series, an urban fantasy romance containing fast-paced action, snarky humor, sexy grim reapers, horrific vampires, a hearty dose of swearing, and a healthy splash of slow-burn fated mates romance.

Fast-paced & Entertaining

Wings of Fire is a wonderfully written, fast-paced and adventurous urban fantasy romance that captures and holds the attention from the very start. The storyline is super entertaining, unpredictable, packed with excitement, murder, action, slow-burn romance, and plot twists. The characters are very well-developed, both appealing and intriguing. Veronica is a kick-ass heroine, the last of the Phoenix race with an inclination to steal shiny and valuable objects. The romance element is more of a slow-burn, building up as the series progresses further. I definitely enjoyed the story and getting to know the characters, and I'm looking forward to the next book. Also, to note, the ending was great and with no cliffhanger. Joanna Roddy did an excellent job with the narration. Her cadence is smooth, the reading was clear and precise, and her portrayal of the characters was nicely done. All in all, Wings of Fire was a very enjoyable listen, one I'll recommend.

Great new series

This is a new author and a new narrator and I enjoyed listening. The story was good and I liked the characters and the fact it was a different shifter than other books made it a unique listen to me.

Great start

Veronica is the last Phoenix shifter huh and she uses those talents to support herself. She has a business of finding people and things and she’s pretty good at it but this isn’t her normal job. What she’s supposed to get is gotten by someone else and there’s a murdered fae. And now she has to prove she didn’t murder the fae and also get back what she was supposed to find or there will be some severe consequences. I really enjoy the mystery and figuring out who killed the fae and why. The romance is more of a slow burn but the internet action between the characters is great. I’m definitely going to get the next book!

Loved it!

I really enjoyed this book, the characters are unique and I loved that she was an avian shifter! It really helped her get out of some sticky situations. Fun read/listen, and I can’t wait to see what happens next. The narrator was easy to listen to as well!

Love, love, love it!

Wow! The writing, the characters and the plot are all fantastic! If I could give 6 starts I would.
I love the tension and play with the grim reaper from the DEA. The story is hysterical yet there's a solid mystery and a few twists. The author has the ability to string words together in a fashion that is enteraining and bulds character. This story caught my attention and kept it. I'm not one to read or listen to a story more than once but with this one I just might!

Loved it! Need book two ASAP...

I loved Wings of Fire: A Kickass Urban Fantasy With Romance (The Last Phoenix, Book 1) by Stephanie Mirro and narrated by Joanna Roddy! Fun and fast-paced action to keep you listening straight through. If you enjoy an urban fantasy that hooks you right off the bat, this is for you.

What’s it about? Veronica “V” is on a job when things go south and she finds herself framed. Trying to clear her name and stay alive, she pairs up with a grim reaper, Thane Munro of the Death Enforcement Agency. Enter vampires, fae’s, angels, a manticore, magic, and more- it leads you on a wild ride. Did I mention V is the last Phoenix and an avian shifter? The minor characters were all awesome too. I was happy to find multiple stories unfolding, lots of action, and it wasn’t the typical “shifter have to mate” romance (more along the lines of he’s hot). There’s no cliffhanger, but one minor story line is left open for sometime in the future and will be huge (I expect). Lots of potential for this series to be fantastic!

The narrator, Joanna Roddy, is new to me and I enjoyed her narration. Pace and tones are perfect. I have no complaints.

I highly recommend this book if UF if your thing. I liked it so much that immediately after finishing, I went to purchase book two only to find it’s not yet on audible. I hope it’s in the works! Both the author and narrator are new to me and I know I will be listening to more of them.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings (***may contain some spoilers***): some violence, death, theft, memories of death of family members (parents, brother), suicide of brother mentioned multiple times (MC believes brother was suicidal due to bullying but finds out later that is not what happened later on). Language used: Fx55, Sx18.

I cannot wait for book two!

A well-written fantasy story is a thing of beauty! In that vain, this listen is stunning!!

Veronica, the main character, was every bit a badass, as the title suggests. Everything about her was a joy to listen to. Roll in angels, and vampires, and faeries, and the special is guaranteed.

The narration was insane!! I often think the hardest stories to narrate are fantasy. The narrator is tasked with making the unbelievable believable. Roddy made me a believer.

There are several stores in the series and I cannot wait!!
