Summary

Good news? I’m no longer a thief. Bad news? I’m no longer a thief.

Some may consider that only good news, since I'll no longer run the risk of getting my ass thrown in a grim reaper prison for the rest of my extremely long life. Longevity comes with the phoenix name tag. Except I happen to enjoy the thrill of the hunt that comes with relieving goods from my unsuspecting targets.

Too bad a sadistic vampire messed it all up for me.

But things never stay boring for long. When I find a necromancer’s undead creation stumbling across a Miami beach - a highly illegal practice these days, I’d like to add - I get pulled into an investigation by the Death Enforcement Agency. Sounds like fun, right?

Wrong.

There’s one huge problem. I’ve been recruited by a man I can’t seem to resist, a sexier-than-sin grim reaper who sets me aflame in all the best and worst places. The attraction is unnaturally strong, but I can’t focus on solving that problem until we find the necromancer responsible for the newly undead.

Because if we don’t nip this dead-man-walking situation soon, we may have a rising zombie apocalypse on our hands.

Fans of Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunters, Ilona Andrews’ Hidden Legacy, or Seanan McGuire’s InCryptid series will find The Last Phoenix a delightful new addition to the urban fantasy romance genre. Scroll up and one-click to start the adventure today!

Wings of Death is the second book of seven in The Last Phoenix series, a kick-ass urban fantasy romance containing fast-paced action, snarky humor, sexy grim reapers, a variety of shifters, a hearty dose of swearing, and a healthy splash of slow-burn romance. Oh, and this one has zombies, too.

Excellent!!!

The plot thickens in this second installment of the series!!! Not one to make spoilers, so I'll just say that this book is fast paced, with amazing plot twists, lots of unexpected turns, slow burn romance, a parade of supernatural creatures, plenty of snark and a foul-mouthed FMC. If you've read the first book, then it's a must read!!!

Great stuff...

Loved this book. Builds the story up nicely from book 1. Slow burn romance notches up, and the threat to the community also builds. Falcon isnt who she thinks she is, and confusion builds around who is foe and friend. Great stuff.

Another winning UF/PNR

Things get darker in this one with the dead coming back to life and being pupated around town. To counter the darker nature of the mystery, the author has also peppered in more of the protagonist's humor and some of her poor taste in men. I'm still enjoying the characters, the swiftly moving action, and the hooking mysteries to solve. The narrator again does a great job with accents and personalities.

Wings of death

Veronica’s secret of being the master thief the falcon is out now meaning V has to find something else to do. She ends up being a private investigator of sorts and has some interesting cases and things to do. I am really enjoying V and her world. She’s going things she has to figure out and who to trust. I’m excited for more of the books and more of these characters. The world is a very well built one and has a lot of interesting characters. The narrator did an amazing job with the characters!

Second Story Stays Strong!!

This story picks up soon after where the first one ended. Veronica is trying to figure out what to do with being outed as the Falcon and a thief. She's had to change her ways and is trying to get used to her new normal. However, she doesn't have to worry about what to do for long because there's a certain reaper who asks for her help...
I liked learning more about Veronica's life, plus some insight into Kit's!!
The story builds and keeps building throughout, staying interesting and pretty action packed.

The narrator does a great job!! I enjoyed her narration, she does a great job getting into character and voicing the male voices. I'd definitely listen to more books narrated by her!!

Note: This is a series. I'd recommend reading the first book before this one otherwise, you'd be a bit confused. Granted, you could probably figure everything out, but I think it'd be more enjoyable if you read the first one first.

Fun!

This book is fast paced and never boring! The storyline is fun and the narrator is easy to listen to. Something needs to happen with Thane, their storyline is hot! We also find out more about her brother’s murder… and who did it. This series is a must-read! Don’t pass it up.

Fast-paced action: phoenix vs. zombies

I have listened to book 1 a while ago, then listened to others, then came back to this series. It was just as interesting as I expected - which is to say, very captivating! I love the story plot, the fact that the action is fast-paced and the main character. She is the perfect mixture of immature, wise and family trauma background. Your typical 27 yo (well, as typical as you can get in a world with supernaturals). I listened to audio book in one whole day and now I can't wait to get to the next one.
