Summary
White Jade is a fast-paced thriller that spins a web of deceit and murder across the globe, featuring characters caught up in a deadly international power game.
Former Recon Marine Nick Carter works for the Project, a covert counter-terrorism unit reporting to the President. He's taciturn and tough, with a dark history of emotional and physical scars. Selena Connor is a beautiful, strong, and skilled linguist. When her wealthy uncle is murdered by someone looking for an ancient book about the elixir of immortality, she's thrown into Nick's dangerous world.
Nick is assigned to protect Selena and help her recover the missing text. The search escalates into a life and death adventure reaching from the gold country of California to the high country of Tibet, from Washington to Beijing. Along the way Nick and Selena begin a relationship forged by danger, combat, and betrayal. Someone is out to take over China and attack America—and Nick and Selena are right in the line of fire.
International intrigue, terrorist acts, romance, patriotism, and the threat of nuclear war form the core of the book, the first volume in a series featuring Nick, Selena, the Project and the ongoing, complex relationship between the main protagonists.
Critic reviews
"Narrator Jack de Golia takes charge of this thriller and helps listeners weave together an array of plotlines—the search for an immortality drug, an adventure amid ancient ruins, and a possible terror attack on the U.S. In a swift, capable narration, Jack de Golia portrays an international cast that includes Chinese intrigue, a mole in the FBI, and a former American Special Forces operative. He delivers wonderful foreign accents and even does well with female characters. Nick Carter may remind listeners of other tough undercover operatives, but, like the others, he keeps the action flowing." (R.F.W. © AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine, published: November 2013)

Fast Paced, Characters very real, Come be drawn in
I had not heard of Alex Lukeman nor had come across his books even though he has been writing for years until March this year when I came across the first few books on a free site with no request you write a review. So as they sounded interesting, reminded me of Clive Cussler and similar authors........ I am so glad I did.
I was drawn into the story almost at once and my interest was kept until the end when I felt stranded and started book two as had to have more of the Projects adventures.
All the characters are well rounded, so real, totally 3D and I loved the adventures they become involved in.
I finished book two so bought book three, then four ......and now I about to buy book eleven - now finished and just as enjoyable and will be buying book twelve next.
Overall the story has moved on with just one blooper when the author forgot that one character had told another character about something in one book but a few books along its brought up and neither character remember they have already spoken about this and it's all treated as new news but hey when you are churning out as many books as the author it's easy to miss a more minor storyline ( although I wonder is this going to become a big one later in series) - if his proofreaders have not read the previous book then they would not pick it up. Otherwise, everything moves forward with the characters as in real life and I certainly would not be put off by this ( I do like to do an honest review hence me mentioning it and as both books were written years ago not worth contacting the author about correcting it as many, many more books added to the series since).
Jack de Golia the narrator is perfect - his voices no matter whether male, female, other or dialect is wonderful he really is a superb voice actor and I will be looking closely at other books he has narrated to see if they would appeal to me.
If you love fast-paced adventure books where the main objective is fighting evil ( as in people who want to take over the world, not the devil) the give White Jade a try and you might like me, find yourself buying more and more and more.
Right books 1- 10 read and loved - as Audible only publish the first review of a book series I will update this one as I read more books in the series.

Welcome to the Project
Former marine Nick Carter, now works for a secret organisation called The Project. He and his team must stop a Chinese plot for violence in the US and a coup in China. Nice first book in the series.

Undelivered potential!
White Jade is an excellent espionage thriller, but it had the potential to earn 5 stars and the author failed to deliver. Specifically, he gave the plot away leaving little suspense for the last half of the book. There is almost continuous action, well developed and likable protagonists, really evil antagonists, and a somewhat credible story line.

A wild ride from begining to end!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
OMG Yes! This is one awesome story! Action packed suspense thriller mixing past present & future along with mystery & terrorism!
What other book might you compare White Jade to and why?
I don't like to compare books normally as people judge the book you compared it to unfairly, but this is like Indiana Jones meets Mission Impossible! Super exciting, never a dull moment. Pay attention or you will miss something!
What about Jack de Golia’s performance did you like?
I loved Jack's ability to do so many different voices! He was on spot all the way thru this book making the book very believable! I could close my eyes while I listened & picture this happening in a movie.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It had me on the edge of my seat! I was afraid of what was happening. I was afraid the end of the world was coming. I was afraid a war would start!
Any additional comments?
WOW, this whole book was incredible! Never a dull moment in the book. It was dangerous, exciting, scary, adventurous, mysterious & suspenseful along with disaster, espionage, thrills stacks upon more thrills! Incredible!!!

Great fun.
Any additional comments?
I read the fifth book in this series first and thoroughly enjoyed the over-the-top spy thriller. This is the first book in the series. The author is clearly establishing the characters and settings for the series, and so is perhaps slower then future books in the series. Still, it was great fun and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

It's OK
I didn’t love this book but I didn’t hate it. The language (especially some of the dialog) is a bit stiff which make it a bit hard to get into. The plot is a bit out there but comes together in the end. The characters are likable if a bit broken, which helps make them a bit more believable. I’m not running out to get the next book in the series but I’m not opposed to moving on either.
Mr de Golia does a good job with the narration of this story. His pacing is good but his female voices need a little work. Also I’m wondering if he’s the correct narrator for this book. He sounds a bit cheery at times where I think this kind of story would have benefited from someone a bit more sinister sounding

Hooks & Keeps You on the Line
What did you love best about White Jade?
Jack DeGolia does a fantastic job interpreting White Jade, capturing the essence of the characters. Alex Lukeman's story keeps listeners on the edge, waiting to hear what's next in store.
What was one of the most memorable moments of White Jade?
When they were in Tibet -- that whole segment of the book
Which scene was your favorite?
Hard to chose a favorite, but I loved it when Selena saves the day. She is a strong female character who doesn't need a knight on a white horse -- she can hold her own.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
yes!
Any additional comments?
downloading book 2 in the series right now

The story was compressive
I felt the story moved to fast in going from one thing to next that I didn't really get the into the motions of it. This lead to me thinking the lack of emotional states of chactgers has they should have been more effect instead of just talking abit about it later. Another problem I had was the voice for Chinese chacthers was awful and needs alot of work and the details on an area could use some work has it used the minimum amount to describe a place could be done better. Do in the end I really injoyed the novel and would recommend this if some asked about it.

Anti-Climactic
From the start, I could tell that there was something missing. Don't get me wrong, it's fairly well written and entertaining. It kept my interest all the way through the end. But there was always a little something that made it fall short. Predominantly, the characters didn't struggle enough. That had it too easy. The bad guys didn't put up enough of a fight. And in the end, the story was anti-climactic. There were several places where the story could have been improved, but wasn't. This novel showed that the author has talent, but he needs to improve his storytelling. In the end, as one of the main characters says, "Nothing we did made a damn bit of difference." That pretty much sums it up right there.
