Story
Daniel is everything I ever dreamed of. A handsome, successful doctor who truly swept me off my feet. I can’t wait to get back from our honeymoon and begin our new lives together. Except, rather than taking us back to our flat, Daniel announces we are moving to a new house in a different city. And when we arrive, the house is fully furnished, with plates in the cupboard, pictures on the walls and new clothes in my closet. It’s like someone already lives here. It seems a bit strange. But I know Daniel is just trying to make sure our new life is perfect, right from the start.

Story
When six-year-old Olivia Adams disappeared from her back garden, the small community of Stoneridge was thrown into turmoil. How could a child vanish in the middle of a cozy English village? Thirteen years on and Olivia is back. Her mother is convinced it's her but not everyone is sure. If this is the missing girl, then where has she been - and what happened to her on that sunny afternoon? If she's an imposter, then who would be bold enough to try to fool a child's own mother - and why?

Story
I pinch the screen to zoom until I’m staring at the face of a ghost. A man with very short hair, staring directly at the camera with piercing brown eyes. He is as he was when I last saw him: wrinkles around the corners of the eyes and a knowing smirk. That’s the expression I see when I can’t sleep. My body tenses. It can’t be him. It’s not my ex-husband. It’s not David. I know that better than anyone because he didn’t walk out on me. He didn’t disappear two years ago and he’s not a missing person. I know that for a fact because I’m the one who killed him.

Psychological drama

Summary
A little girl has been left for dead. And now my husband is missing.
"I can give you a lift home," the man says. Little Alice tightens the zip of her big red coat. She’s unsure, but the walk will be cold and dark. "I’m not supposed to get in a stranger’s car." He forces a smile. "I’m not a proper stranger, am I?"
I return home to our beautiful house on a chilly winter evening expecting to find my handsome husband Richard waiting for me by the fire. We’re still so in love, and he always takes care of me: buying us this home in the little village where he grew up, making sure I settled in and made friends, and treating my teenage daughter like his own. There’s a bit of gossip about our age gap, but the death of his first wife years ago was so tragic that he still gets sympathetic looks. Everyone loves Richard.
He usually comes straight back from work. But tonight, our antique clock ticks on through the dark evening, with no sign of him. Then a knock at the door shatters my perfect life. A 12-year-old-girl, Alice from the village, has been found unconscious in the field behind our house. They say she was last seen getting into Richard’s car.
Now rumors are flying. As Alice fights for her life in the hospital, nobody will speak to me - and when they do it’s to ask if he didn’t hurt Alice, why hasn’t Richard come home?
I know that revealing my own darkest secret about Richard’s first wife could prove his innocence...but even if I do, he’s still missing. Is everyone right, and is my husband on the run? And will telling the truth about my past turn my own daughter against me and tear our lives apart for good?
Fans of The Girl on the Train, I Am Watching You, and Shari Lapena will adore this.

Decent Thriller
This is a good solid thriller with appropriate twists and turns but there is nothing that really makes it a favourite listen for me. It kept me going for ten hours and I enjoyed it the supposed disappearance of the Husband the death of the child and the wife looking for answers. The twist at the end was good and made the listen worthwhile.

Irritating narration
I think I would have enjoyed this a lot more had I read the book. The story line was good and kept me engaged. Found the main character annoying at her naivety and how she kept key developments to herself rather than sharing with the police, but I suppose that’s poetic licence to move the story along.
The worst thing was the whinged, whiny voices the narrator used for too many characters. Made me want to punch all of them in the face. I found it quite distracting and I had to force myself to carry on listening at times. I won’t listen to another book with this narrator.

Not one of his best
The narrator has a pleasant voice but voices the main character a bit whispery and whiney which irritates after a while and had the effect that I had no sympathy for her circumstances.
I agree with other reviewers in that the characters are insipid and I found them very stereotypical, village spiteful snob, spineless hangers on etc.
The story was nothing new and I’ve read similar before. I’m not sure I agree that there were twists and turns, I found it quite predictable but this is my favourite genre and I suppose there are only so many plot twists.
I really enjoy his Jessica Daniels series as they have humour and good characters (which I accept can be developed over a few books). I’ll stick to those in future rather than the stand alone stories.

Disappointing
Honestly, I had high hopes for this book. The premise excited me, the narrator was pleasant on the ears, and it had received relatively high reviews. But... I just did not love this book. I won't blame Alison Campbell - her performance was absolutely fine and very believable - but the story itself just wasn't for me.
I struggled to become invested in any of the characters and, honestly, did not care what happened to them one way or another. The flashbacks to the main character's past were a highlight, but they weren't nearly as frequent as would be needed to carry the rest of the story, and the last one fell short of what I'd hoped. Ultimately, I was left expecting another line or two of dialogue after the final sentence, but it never came. Overall, I found What My Husband Did to be somewhat dull and a bit of a chore to get through. I don't believe I'll be reading (listening to?) it again any time soon.
I don't want to be entirely negative, however. I have certainly read worse books and the very fact that I finished this one has to count for something. I did want to know ultimately what had happened in both timelines, and Wilkinson delivered on this promise by adequately summing up both events. It's clear that a lot of people did like the story, and so I would say to give it a go yourself to see if it's for you.

A great read
I was ready to give up at first as I just couldn't see where this story was going. I am glad I stuck with it as it really did evolve. My only confusion was why we kept going back in time. I couldn't make sense of the story line in her younger years and it still confuses me.

Small town mystery
Narration was terrific. Wait until 20 minutes or so into the story to judge. It's a good story. A second little story intermixed with the main one. So time goes back and to current, back and forth. I will look up more of her stories.

Great books except for all the extra filling
It reminded me of being in school and having to write a 300 words essay in which you could could sum up in less than a 100 words. So you write in a bunch of unnecessary filler words so you can reach the 300 words requirement. It would have made a great short story though.

What my husband did
Entertaining story, full of emotion and action and suspense. Have to admit that I had to think which character was thinking or talking, but for the most part it snapped.
