Summary
Gotrek & Felix, Book 6.
Fresh from the war in Praag, Gotrek and Felix are thrown into a new adventure when their old friend Ulrika Magdova is abducted. Travelling to the accursed land of Sylvania, the pair face a monstrous vampire intent on claiming Ulrika as his bride.
Listen to it because
It's a classic vampire story, complete with haunted castles, abducted maidens (well, Ulrika) and a powerful creature of the night - but with a typically Warhammer twist, of course!
The story
Gotrek and Felix: unsung heroes of the Empire, or nothing more than common thieves and murderers? The truth perhaps lies somewhere in between, and depends entirely upon whom you ask....
Fresh from the siege of Praag, dwarf slayer Gotrek Gurnisson and his sworn human companion Felix Jaeger are beset by a new and terrible foe in their unceasing war against Chaos. A powerful evil is rising in darkest Sylvania, and it threatens to reach forth and tear the very heart out of the Empire - and out of Felix's relationship with Ulrika Magdova. Faced with the machinations of a powerful centuries-old vampire, can the duo's deadly battle result in anything but death and tragedy?
Written by William King. Running time 11 hours 14 minutes. Narrated by Jonathon Keeble.

The saga soldiers on strong
I've always loved the King books from this saga. They built so brilliantly from the initial trilogy. I struggled with this the first time around, with some big moments, sadly the last for some characters.....at least for a while. Savour the King books with this penultimate one as other authors try to carry the torch afterwards with mixed results.
Giant slayer after this is excellent and I think spurred on a whole Warhammer sub plot of ancient Albion at the time of it's release.
To that end this book closes a chapter on the bigger warband that had become favourites of mine. Whilst I think it's done well and it's not the last time we see those left standing in the saga it's a poignant end. For a long while after this the books really focus mostly on the quietly hardest 2 bastards in the Warhammer Fantasy word.... well till GW blew it all up many, many years later. twats

weaker than previous ones
still a decent story, but Felix felt whiney and useless through most of the book

Best of the series so far
This is an excellent Gotrek and Felix novel, no spoilers here but it’s the most eventful and memorable of the series so far.

Fantastic entry into the greatest fantasy series
Narration perfect as always.
Engaging story with that mix of action, adventure and sardonic British humour that you come to expect. Villain was great too - easily one of the best so far. A must read for fans of the series.

Performance was great as usual! However..
So far this has been the only book I haven't totally enjoyed. The other plots kept me sucked in the whole time. The plot for this book just felt weak. The ending was unsatisfying and the rest just felt lack luster. I do believe this book is still worth a listen however. The performance holds true and at the end of the day it's just more adventure from some of my favorite characters. I just wish the writing had been stronger.

really expands the vampire counts lore. well told by Keebler. only complaint is there are a lot of repeat phrases used In the book that after so many times in the series I wish would stop
