He also does exactly what he needs to do in order to stay a step ahead of Sloan.
Nothing will get in his way.
Nothing except Carter.

22 Jump Street with a LOT of sex
I enjoyed this book. There were some clever, well-written parts but also a couple of very predictable parts and very cheesy moments. I kind of wish I had just read the book though because I'm not sure 2 of 3 actors were suited to the parts. Asa is well cast. He pulls off the confident meets creepy lines perfectly, but the woman who reads for Sloane sounds like she's in her 40's. The actor who plays Carter, a character aged 25 but posing as a 22 year old college student, sounds like what Bruce Willis hopes he'll sound like when he hits the big 7-0. Would recommend reading the book but give the audiobook a miss.

Good story with excellent narration.
Asa is a bad dude. Dealing drugs, psychotic, manipulative, deceitful and he has a hold on Sloane. Sloane is going to school, trying to make something of her life but is being dragged down by toxic Asa. In comes Carter (Luke). He is undercover trying to take Asa down and during his time undercover, he falls in love with Sloane. From there, all hell breaks loose. This book is suspenseful, dark, exciting and full of romance.
I really did enjoy this book. It wasn't until the epilogues that I started to disconnect. There are numerous epilogues that you got the closure you needed, but then another epilogue came and the drama started again. This made the book choppy and it pulled me from the story.
I understand this book was written on Wattpad and added to over a period of time. It's evident in the audio. Knowing this, the book makes more sense but it still doesn't mean that it is a distracting way for the book to be put together.
The narrators did amazing. They were the perfect fit.

Unique
Audible – Narrated by: Emma Hudson, Max Thomas, Ryan Gray
I really struggled initially with Ms. Hudson’s fluctuation on her part as Sloan. It felt and sounded very flat and I almost DNF’d because it caused me to wince and while I didn’t mind the men’s voices her’s was so bad I almost felt it physically. However, I knew in the past when I struggled with a different type of voice, if I gave it some time I would adjust. I did and it got better. Although it also felt as though she had settled down into the story some as well as I did. After the rough start I was totally invested in all of these narrators.
This is a very fast paced story that never gets bogged down. I was a bit nervous when I realized it’s set up to sound a bit like a love triangle but you quickly realize that’s the last thing this is. A lot of this is going to be a bit iffy for the safety gang. Sloan is living with Asa who is not a good guy. She has really doesn’t have a lot of choice you will find. When Carter enters her life she wants what she can’t have. All along the way Asa is manipulating things in the background. I don’t want to give too much of it away.
I really enjoyed this book. I’m not sure all the ending with the epilogues was about but I was thrilled this didn’t end with a cliffhanger and we got a HEA. It was kind of questionable there for a while. This is not your standard Colleen Hoover book. This is very steamy and harsh and deals with some extremely heavy topics.

Toxic relationship
Sloan was tethered to a dangerous man. Their relationship was established out of convenience. For Sloan it was about being stuck with no other options. For Asa it was about needing to be loved. He clung to her love as a way to regain what was not given to him as a child. Asa was the product of a bad upbringing. In order for him to be in love he had to believe that an innocent girl would never leave him.
Love triangle, forbidden love, savior complex are just a few words used to describe Too Late. Too Late was a complex story woven together with multiple genres. It was a toxic love formed out of this ideal belief that a pure innocent love can’t be tarnished if you had nothing else to compare it to. For Sloan having never experienced love before she found herself immersed in a toxic relationship bound to a guy who truly believed in the love he gave.
Asa misunderstood the meaning of love. He was confused by the concept given that his dad brainwashed him to believe women were wh0res.
I learned a great deal about Asa from his inner dialogue. His upbringing was harsh and confusing. This was one of those times where an author has the reader questioning themselves because it’s in this moment I want to feel sorry for Asa when in reality he was misdirected in life. He’s the villain who also at one time was the victim.
"Love finds you in the tragedies". My favorite quote from Too Late.
The story was intense and the topic of rape was even more intense. This story had suspense, terror, and humor.
I loved the two opposing perspectives: Sloan’s and Asa’s. When you compare the two you can see where his faults were. Colleen tapped into both emotions with heartbreaking truths.
It wouldn’t be a Colleen original without an epilogue to an epilogue. This was definitely a first for me to read not one but two epilogues in the same book.
Narrators:
Emma Hudson was the voice of Sloan. Her performance was excellent. The sound quality was superb. The scenes were read word perfectly.
Ryan Gray and Max Thomas were the male performers. Since I’ve never listened to either one before I couldn’t distinguish who performed Asa or Carter. I wasn’t particularly impressed with either narration. Well their tone and sound didn’t match the tone or timber I expected for Asa’s character. I envisioned more masculine voices for these male characters.

Good story but horrid female narrator
I really enjoyed the story but Emma Hudson's words linger somehow. I had to bare thru it in order to even listen to it. I like the story but it is hard if you've ever been raped or a victim of domestic violence and there's no warnings.

Too many epilogue
Where does Too Late rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It is good but not CoHo's best book
If you’ve listened to books by C. Hoover before, how does this one compare?
so so
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Talk about anxiety! I was anxious through this entire book! I don't even know what to say about it.Break out your popcorn and get ready for this trainwreck! By trainwreck I mean wild ride. It's dark, messed up and everything in between.
There are some triggers in this book so definately read some reviews...rape, abuse, crazies...
I wanted to smack Sloan a couple times but could maybe see a little where she was coming from
ASA...oh man. Obviously insanely smart with an emphasis on insanely
Carter...just sweet

How many epilogues does it take...
What would have made Too Late better?
Another female narrator. Less "epilogues"
What was most disappointing about C. Hoover’s story?
The story could have been Ok, but it supposedly wrapped up with four hours left in the book. Then, we were subjected to numerous epilogues. I lost count of how many there were. Definition of epilogue: "a section or speech at the end of a book or play that serves as a comment on or a conclusion to what has happened." Let's face it-- what the author wrote were merely more "chapters." So frustrating to listen to. What in the world? Oh another thing-- the lame story line that the cops/ DA would not charge/ prosecute the bad guy FOR SHOOTING A COP IN COLD BLOOD because they wrote it off as a love triangle?? PLEASE. Just stop it.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The vocal pattern of the female narrator was like nails on a chalkboard. Why did she drag her words out at the end of each sentence? Her voice was deep and husky so she sounded way too old to be the innocent college girl described in the story. Maybe she was a smoker? Maybe she was attempting to enlist a little (annoying) "vocal fry" to make herself sound younger, but she missed the mark. Terribly. I didn't have any feeling for her because she annoyed me so bad.The two male narrators were fine.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Annoyance. Epilogue: I don't think the writer actually has a sense of how the justice system works. Cops do not operate the way she portrayed them in this book. They have training you know. This main guy was more like a pizza guy.

Emma needs to stop drawing out the last word of every sentence. It really makes it hard to listen to her. If she could stop doing that i would have given 5 Stars. I've listened to several books with her narration and they are all the same. Hope this helps.
