About this listen
1812. Arriving back in England after his successes in the Adriatic, Captain Sir Thomas Kydd is bestowed with honours. In London, he's greeted by the Prince Regent, who, despite Kydd's protestations that he's happy with his present command, insists he be given a bigger ship - HMS Thunderer, a 74-gun ship of the line. But she's old, and being part of a standing fleet, Kydd's chances of further fame and distinction are slim indeed.
Winning over his new command is fraught with challenges. A hostile crew, abysmal levels of gunnery and sail-handling capabilities are intolerable to a fighting captain like Kydd. With the ship short of men and no incentives to attract more, can he ever bring Thunderer to a proper state of fighting preparedness?
Kydd is sent to reinforce the Baltic squadron as Bonaparte's vast army invades Russia. News reaches him of French victory at the Battle of Borodino. The road to Moscow is now open. To avert total French victory, Kydd must lead a vital convoy through battle and tempest to the aid of Britain's last ally.

Another gripping story
As expected Thunderer, full of adventure, colourful descriptions and much danger.
The captivating voice of Christian Rodska, reading, once again, bringing to life the amazing Captain Kidd.
Julian Stockwin always keeping attention to detail. Kept me fascinated to the very end. Brilliant

Back on form
After a low last book, Stockwin is back on form. Nice change of scene. Great narration, as always.
A little short?

Lots of seafaring, a good book
This was my favourite book in the series for a while. There was little of Rensey for the first half, meaning it almost all took place on the sea. It was also refreshing to see Kydd take up position on a ship of the line, where he faced new challenges as opposed to being a seasoned and talented frigate captain

keeping up he high standards
Another year and a. new Kydd series book.
After waiting so long for the book it didn't disappoint.
I perticularly liked what the author and did with the 1st officer and why he didn't like Kydd.
what I like about this series is the real people of the time and learning about them.
knowing where the story is up to in the Napoleonic Wars I'm looking forward to more books to come

Enthralling
So well written and read it was like watching a film. Kydd engaged in all sorts of intrigue and peril using his past experiences in decision making with his shipmates

same old same old....
more of the same. honestly can't remember the last book which i read immediately before this one. Renzi has become the most boring fictional character since Bronte was scribbling.
kydd goes off doing sailor things
renzi smarms his way into a foreign court.
rinse and repeat.
