Summary

Bloomsbury presents Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, read by Elizabeth Evans.

‘One of the best fantasy book series of the past decade’ TIME

Enter the realm. Unleash the darkness. Live the legend.

In a land without magic, an assassin is summoned to the castle. Celaena Sardothien has no love for the vicious king who rules from his throne of glass, but she has not come to kill him. She has come to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three murderers, thieves, and warriors in a deadly competition, she will be released from prison to serve as the King's Champion.

But something rotten dwells in the castle – and it's there to kill. When her competitors start dying mysteriously, one by one, Celaena’s fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival – and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world, and the people she has come to love.

Thrilling and fierce, Throne of Glass is the first book in the #1 New York Times bestselling series that has captivated readers worldwide.

Great read!

As I'm finding with all Sarah J Maas books, the first one in the series is always slow and hard to get in to, but if you stick it out. The second and subsequent books are incredible!!!

A good start

I liked it. I started reading SJM from the acotar series so I was surprised at how pg this was in comparison. I look forward to seeing where this story goes.

Sarah doing her thing

This is a great start of the series, So much foreshadowing and good building towards what comes next. I’ve read this series before, but first time listening to it. Enjoyed the reader a lot!

Overall a good start

An exciting start to Book One and I felt more invested as I read 'The Assassin's Blade' first...it's an important introduction. I felt I already knew what Celaena Sardothien was about.
Why 4*'s for the story....I was initially disappointed with Celaena's attitude after what happened to Sam in the afore mentioned book. I was still grieving and yet she seemed to have moved on but this did improve somewhat as he got a few mentions. I also found her a bit shallow, surely after a year of back breaking work alongside other poor prisoners in the salt mine would have given her more humility. Having said all that this is SJM's early books so she is still finding her style.
All in all I'm invested and will continue the series...

Loved every moment

This is my second time reading/ listening to Throne of Glass and I loved it even more! I saw everything from a different perspective and yet it all felt new and just as thrilling and intriguing as the first time.

And Elizabeth Evans is fabulous as Celaena Sardothien!

A little cheesy, but I like that

It has similar energy to The Hunger Games- there is action, but also cheesy flirty scenes. If you want a 24/7 bloodbath then this book is probably not for you, but if you want a mix of romance, dystopia, and mystery then this may be to your liking.

The story is a little slow to get off the ground and some of the plot points are somewhat predictable, but overall it’s a worthwhile listen.

I can’t fault the performance. The narrator says the words “foyer” and “buoy” kind of weirdly, but those words don’t come up often enough for it to be an issue.

Great narrator!

narrating was amazing. The story while entertaining was a little dull. not much of a climax but since its a seven book series I'm guessing the best is yet to come
