About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

The audiobook of Thief of Time is narrated by the BAFTA award-winning actor Sian Clifford (Fleabag; Vanity Fair; Quiz). BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

'The universe is, instant by instant, recreated anew… The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it.'

Time is a resource. Everyone knows it must be managed. You can let it move fast or slowly, but what you mustn't do is allow it to stop.

On the Discworld, the History Monks have the important job of ensuring that tomorrow always comes. But the construction of the world's first truly accurate clock starts a race against, well… time.

Monk Lu-Tze, his apprentice Lobsang Ludd and Death's granddaughter Susan must stop the clockmaker before he completes his task. Because a truly accurate clock will stop time completely.

And then, there really will be no tomorrow…

The Discworld novels can be listened to in any order, but Thief of Time is the fifth book in the Death series.

The first book in the Discworld series—The Colour of Magic—was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

Loved it

This is my favourite Discworld novel so I was excited for the audiobook.

I loved Sean Clifford as the narrator and Peter Serafinwicz is just superb as Death. I give him 10/10. I couldn't wait for the Death books so he would feature more and I haven't been disappointed.

Would highly recommend this book to anybody. Even if you've never read Discworld, this book is incredible and with a listen.

Great story, poor narration

It’s a fantastic story and well worth listening to, but the narrator has a very limited range which made it difficult to get through.

Enjoyed this

Enjoyed the narration, good pace with the story (some of these new productions reall drag and spoil), overall a good listen.

Plot starts to hurt your brain.

Try not to think about it too much 😂 The readers voice I find to be a love it or hate it, some characters become 'slurred' together

The best of the Death books

And so the second series of my audiobook marathon trek through the Discworld ends. It’s probably my favourite of the Death series though none are in my top 5 - Moist,Vimes and Granny reside there.

It took me a while to get used to Sian Clifford but she grew through the series and in the end knocks both Stephen Briggs and Nigel Planer out of the park.

PS For all those saying the men got it better and that her pronunciation was wrong….remember that doing something first doesn’t make you the Oracle.

That’ll do, squeak

For my tenpennyworth, this is the single best of the Discworlds. Yes, the Guards and Witches get more fully realised, and “Monstrous Regiment” is also nigh on perfecr, but hos Sir Terry wound up the Auditors can’t be beaten, I’d say. New narration doesn’t mess it up, colour me a happy bunny.

A Nice end to the Death series

Probably my favourite of the death series, although they all have something unique to bring to the table. I felt there was more of the story to tell but I guess life doesn't always answer every single question and tie up every loose end.

I'll be happy to revisit this in the future.
