About this listen
The moment she laid eyes on Heather Wisher, Tully knew this woman was going to destroy their lives.
Tully and Rachel Aston are murderous when they discover their father has a new girlfriend. The fact that Heather is half his age isn't even the most shocking part. Stephen is still married to their mother, who is in a care facility with end-stage Alzheimer's disease.
Announcing his plan to divorce and then remarry, the news of Stephen and Heather's engagement sets a chain a family implosion. With their mother unable to speak for herself, Tully and Rachel are determined to get to the truth about their family's secrets and what this new woman really wants.
Heather knows she has an uphill battle to win over Tully and Rachel, all the while carrying the burden of the secrets of her past. But, as it turns out, they are all hiding something.
A garage full of stolen goods. An old hot-water bottle stuffed with cash. A blood-soaked wedding. And that's only the beginning....

Do we all have Daddy issues?
Heather thinks she's struck gold when she falls in love with heart surgeon Stephen until she realises his wife is still alive. Although she has Alzheimer's disease, her daughters are annoyed with their father for making plans to remarry whilst she is still alive, especially to a woman who is a similar age to themselves.
But is Stephen as lovely as he appears?
Add a mixture of family deceits and highly strung women altogether, and the result is a very entertaining read set in Melbourne, Australia.

Lovely light hearted story
Lovely, light hearted story that I found really entertaining. All the narrators were great with an appropriate level of storytelling. I’m definitely interested in listening to more stories by this author.

Brilliant as an audio book
This is a well constructed and beautifully performed audio book. This audible purchase has author and performers working together in top form. I was intrigued from the start, as the author set up a scenario which gradually revealed itself. It is a clever device which punctuates the novel. Difficult to critique without spoilers but there are dark themes beyond a who duunit in this book ,which although dealt with sensitivity perhaps the author may not have explored the main theme with the gravitas some might have wanted. However this book worked for me and I warmed to the characters. The female characters were well rounded, perhaps some of the males were less rounded. I was sad to leave these characters behind .

Loved it!
The Younger Wife reminded of the novels of Lianne Moriarty, especially as the book was set in Australia. It made me laugh several times as well as as touching my heart. The dark undercurrent of domestic violence and its impact not just on the victim but other family members was the underlying theme of the book and handled with insight and sensitivity. I was sorry to finish the book and will now look for others by the same author. Highly recommended

Loved it.
Well written and enjoyable. The main storyline was subtle and I have to say I've come across someone like Steven. I will look forward to the next book from Sally Hepworth.

Gaslighting
This book is an interesting look into abusive relationships and how a person is able to gaslight another person so that they are unsure whether the abuse has taken place. It’s is so effective that it almost feels like the author is gaslighting the reader and, by the end of the book, we are not sure what to believe either. I enjoyed the journey but was anticipating some kind of twist at the end which would make the book cleverer or more exciting but this never came.
