Cecilia Bassingwaite belongs to a very prestigious circle of women: The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels.

Yet this is no ordinary Victorian lady's society—as it's full of pirates, thieves and ne'er-do-wells.

These women spend their days pickpocketing and blackmailing their way around the country all before it's time to sit down for tea.

But when Cecilia meets Ned Lightbourne her world is set to change forever.

Because he's a paid assassin and she's his next hit.

Under the employment of the dastardly Captain Morvath—who wants to rid the world of these Lady Scoundrels—Ned knows he has one job to do.

But when he lays eyes on the feisty, beautiful Cecilia he's faced with a conundrum: does he kill her or fall in love with her?

Bridgerton meets Peaky Blinders in this swashbuckling tale of scoundrels and society, crime and crumpets. As these enemies turn to allies and might just fall in love along the way....

Quirky and brilliant

Loved the way the characters interact in this book, it’s a refreshing comedy of language and witty retorts, in a world of pirates and flying houses just brilliant. I laughed out loud a lot.

Fiction audiobooks were not for me until....

really enjoying the surprising book. It is delightfully funny and quintessentially British. The narration and character voices make perfect sense. Sometimes, with audiobooks, it is the narration that you can't get lost in. Much easier with a book, as you make it ip in your head.

Absolutely Stupendous

From the tongue-in-cheek literary references to the (probably) accurate portrayal of Queen Victoria, this book kept me laughing and wanting more. I cannot wait to read more of this series!

Decently Tongue-in-Cheek!

Personally I found this story delightful, deliberately “ridiculous”, very funny and am keeping in my library to listen to again!!!

I do not understand the negative reviews unless of course one has no sense of humour (or doesn’t “get” double entendre), can’t tolerate the light-hearted or they thought they were buying a serious book about magic (which is not the focus of this story).

The narrator is brilliant, both with voices and the style of narration itself, translating the comedic value perfectly.

Hey-ho, maybe I’m just ridiculously silly, but this brought some joy (i.e. laugh-out-loads, sniggers & giggles) into my world… Best buy from Audible in a while!

Easy and topsy turvy

This book will grab you by the collar and take you down a Victorian / Piratical rabbit hole.

Enjoy!

Unexpected!

I really enjoyed this! My favourite narrator was the reason I initially chose it and I’m so glad I did, it made me really chuckle! Strong, funny slightly (very odd!) women loved it

Didn't finish, a pale mash up of genres and tropes

I don't often give up on a book, and I have enjoyed other fluffy magical worlds and ripping yarns for girls, which describes this.
But the characters are very 2 dimensional, the writing is uninspired.
When most of the cast got kidnapped I totally failed to care, and was bored at the prospect of the heroine's rescue.

Good publisher. Good title. Lousy book

I read the reviews say how delightful and humorous this book was. Hmmm!
The humour appeared to pass be by. I didn't laugh, snigger, or even smirk throughout it.
Weird setting between eras, between the real and the imagined. Magic introduced but only very slightly and in a one-dimensioned way. If you're going to go with magic... have more than one magic element.
I didn't like/ nor dislike any of the characters. I didn't get to know any of them.
I suspect the author had wonderful pictures in her head of flying houses... etc... but the lack of description of settings, clothing, actions, meant that this was not a flight of fancy for me.
I listened-on hoping it would get better and aware it was 2 for 1 so I couldn't return it.
Only once I'd listened to the end did I find I had actually wasted a credit on it... and could have swapped it midway for another read. Ah well, you live and learn!

Witty. Not your average romance

This book made me laugh out loud so many times. Incredibly funny I can’t wait to listen to it again for l the hidden jokes. A sweet romance. Would love to see it made into a film.

Thoroughly Enjoyable Listen

I wasn’t sure when I first started listening to this book but, it didn’t take long before I was absolutely hooked. Great story with lots of humour and a romance.
Enjoyed it so much that I’m going straight away to buy Book 2 in the Series.

The Narrator was fabulous and brought the story and all of the characters to life.
