Thriller with a twist

This is a great page turner. Set in Boston, it is a story about a young female cop who has to start dealing with her own dark past when there is a series of murdered young women involving the occult. I love that it is a proper thriller with a troubled heroine whose dark past involves being a powerful (albeit modern) witch. Couldn't put it down and am looking forward to the next book.

Had to listen to end......BUT

I was torn between needing to know what happened (sitting in the car at work for just a few more minutes & a few more minutes.....etc etc) and being increasingly irritated.

Tension built up nicely - semi twist at the end but not what I thought was coming -unless that is for later books - and a beautifully articulated clear and lively narration BUT, & it is a big but unfortunately, the narrator has 2 voices - 1 female and 1 painful stomachy voice for males. I started to dread longer male character speeches.

Also, wish most of the main characters were not so dim! Love interest man in particular - ouch.

Maybe it will read better than audiobook.

Generally I am not so put off by a protagonist that I find the novel intolerable but Sam Ryan is a Boston based police officer who is afraid of her own shadow. I get that she had traumatic experiences in the past but honestly. Her attitude is I'm too scared to do anything about this and no one else is capable so we are all doomed! Pull yourself together and just get on with it - or rethink your career choice. I was too bored to persevere.

Dark witchy thriller..

A quick review..
Dark and brooding, a witchy thriller full of murder magic and a race against time. I enjoyed it, reminded me a little of Stacia Kane in tone but not as intense... Definitely not a fluffy book, more horror than pnr. Definitely worth a go if you like your paranormal fantasies dark and violent.

The narrator tried her best but the book was so bad she was probably embarrassed reading it out loud!

GRIPPING

This is a fantastic gripping book, I couldn't stop listening wondering what each door held and what would happen next! Can't wait for the 3rd book and more books from this author available on audible
