Summary

Brought to you by Puffin.

From New York Times #1 best-selling author Rick Riordan and award-winning author Mark Oshiro comes a new standalone adventure featuring two of the most popular characters from the world of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

ONE PROPHECY. TWO DEMIGODS. A HEROIC QUEST.

Nico di Angelo is pretty familiar with the realms of death, being the son of Hades and all. So when a desperate voice starts plaguing his dreams, Nico is convinced it's coming from the Underworld and belongs to an old friend - a reformed Titan called Bob. Then an ominous prophecy leaves Nico in no doubt - Bob needs his help and Nico must rescue him.
Of course Nico's boyfriend, Will Solace, the son of Apollo (the god of light) insists on joining the quest too. But can will even survive in the darkest part of the world? And what does the prophecy mean when it says that Nico will have to leave something of equal value behind?

As Nico faces demons both internal and external, his relationship with Will is tested to its very core. Can love find its way, even through the depths of hell?

Such a good book

I loved it so much I've been waiting for so long to get Nico's story and was not disappointed. I'm getting a hardcopy right now.

Loved it - Want to get a hard copy

I loved it so much more than I thought I was going to. I had been in a reading slump after a few books that just had no feeling, but this story was oozing with feeling. It was such a joy to follow along and be in this world again. It didn't feel off at all. It was everything you would expect from a Riordan story and Oshiro really brought these characters out and made them shine. (Literally in some cases)

The audiobook performance had a lot of ups and downs. I want to recommend it because a lot of it is very good and easy to listen to. But the parts that are not read well, are really not read well at all. So much so it takes you right out of the story. It feels like an unedited/undirected first draft. So much of it needed to be re-recorded before being published like this.

It was sometimes hard to know who was talking because his voice for Will and Nico kept changing and interchanging. It was not consecutive, so there was a lot of rewinding of the story to listen again to who is speaking. There were also a lot of moments where there was a pause for a break as if a sentence was finished when it was not. It felt like a misread of punctuation and instead of rerecording just continued!? I don't understand the decision to whisper whenever anyone shouted...This was just bizarre. I am trying to follow this story and all I can think about is how the narrator must have bad soundproofing and complaining neighbours if he isn't going to shout or scream when the story literally says the characters are screaming!
And then there is getting names wrong? Maybe the mistakes were in the script, Maybe, it's a mistake in the book. (Very obvious one guess we'll find out when more people finish reading it)

I did like Beckles's voice though. I feel it was well-suited to this story just needed better direction.

Overall, I enjoyed this so much that I am definitely going to get a hard copy and do a reread in the near future.

I hate feeling things

It made me feel things and then called me out for suppressing those feelings. Awesome use of symbolism. Great story

Amazing

I really like this story. Listen to it almost all in one go. It was great to see the characters grow over the story and the action scenes were nicely done. Nico and Will clearly had communication problems at the start but throughout the journey they learnt to be more open and excepting of their differences.
The reading was really easy to listen to but a little odd in places. Not sure if words were misspoken or whether it was just dialects differences but they were glaring at times.

Happy

I missed these characters. The style was s bit different from usual with the timelines jumping around, and with it being tartarus darker themes were to be expected. Nice development of Nico and Will's relationship, though. :)

Worth the wait!

I absolutely love this book. I like how it switches between Nico and Will as narrators and how their stories are included throughout the first part of the book.

It was definitely worth the wait and I hope to revisit these characters again soon!
