Summary

Nine hostages. Ten hours. One chance to save them all.

Lee James Connor has found his purpose in life: to follow the teachings of far-right extremist leader Nicholas Farmer. So when his idol is jailed, he comes up with the perfect plan: take a local immigrant support group hostage until Farmer is released.

Grace Wheatley is no stranger to loneliness having weathered the passing of her husband, whilst being left to raise her son alone. The local support group is her only source of comfort. Until the day Lee James Connor walks in and threatens the existence of everything she's ever known.

Superintendent Alex Lewis may be one of the most experienced hostage negotiators on the force, but there's no such thing as a perfect record. Still haunted by his last case, can he connect with Connor—and save his nine hostages—before it's too late?

A brilliant thought provoking audiobook

John Sutherland writes great books that stay in your mind for good reasons. He is a great author. Although this is his first novel after writing two excellent non fiction books on policing I hope that he continues writing more police based novels. His writing is a level above most other crime writers. Please keep writing.

Fascinating insight

This was a gripping story, and also a fascinating insight into hostage negotiation. It is a privilege to gain this insight from someone with real experience in the field. As the characters in the book are developed the story becomes increasingly moving.

Excellent delivery

I wasn’t sure whether this was going to live up to expectations, but it did. Had me gripped. Excellent narration.

Great Fiction Debut

Gripping hostage negotiation story from an author who knows what he's talking about. The characters are fully formed and each have their own place in the story. very easy to listen to and the use of different actors is consistent with the way the story is written.

Would thoroughly recommend.

Very little to say other than AMAZING!!! Being a hostage negotiator myself got lost in the role and took many things from the story!! Loved every second!!

Captivating

As John is a former police officer you can tell that some of this book talks about procedures that are genuine. However, this does NOT make this book boring in the slightest. I literally couldn't stop listening.
The three voices made the story come even more to life. you could "feel' the story.
I would recommend this book to all my friends, and recommend that you listen to it.

Well done John. Hope this is the beginning of a fiction career for you.

Predictable, boring.

An over-emotional, sugarcoated view of the police, the public and human nature. Knew how it would end after the first chapter and it didn't disappoint.

Listener Held Hostage

9hrs & 34 minutes I was held hostage listening to this siege. I honestly should have escaped much earlier.
Alas it all turned out pretty much as you'd have thought from the outset and in all honesty the only real thing I got from this I think was the actual sense of how tedious and tiresome being in a hostage situation could possibly be.
If that was actually the intention then Bravo, 10/10 for effort!
However, in reality I'd rather have slipped away and found something more interesting than this, perhaps you may too.
