Great Story

Gripping story line, spoiled (only slightly) by sycophantic references to the author, which I found a bit tacky!

Apart from that, a great tale!

Great follow up to River God

Again a much loved book and, well, still sort of following the story of Tiata the slave, but bringing everything right up to date. We find Tiata in a tomb. This book takes on a separate but intriguing story all the same. Finding ancient artifacts, especially those of ancient Egypt can put you in all sorts of peril. Especially when someone else would prefer you to do the finding whilst they reap the spoils. Bringing it up to date, does not mean you are safe in Tiata's world. A great follow up. Enjoy.

Too long a chapter scrolling difficult

I have read this hardback book several times and it was good to get in on audible and to listen to it in sequence of the 4 books in book 1, 2, 3 4 in order. . Mark meadows does the story justice and he keeps an even pace throughout . I liked his voice variation with some good voices in character. I enjoyed listening to it. My only complaint is that the main recording is in one big chapter. This was problematic when transferring devices eg phone watch iPad. To pick up where it had left off on,other devices which meant searching through the time sequence to get to where I had left the story. It would have been much better if the chapters were broken down as the written word . Wilbur smith 4 books are all 20 plus hours having to trawl through hours listening detracts from the experience to get back into the story. Library chapters would be a better recording. I already own the QUEST( book 4) on audible which was done some time ago it has separate chapter and is much better. Come on audible do a better recording

I kept scrolling!

I bought this book in a sale and was pleasantly surprised by its story and couldn't put it down, so to speak. I didn't realise that this was Book 2 and it's made me want to read the first book. It has elements of other archeological ripping yarn adventures but the story and characters were engaging. A slightly annoying issue is the upper class voice the reader gave to one of the leading English characters. He was a toff but his dialogue was really hammed up and I felt a slightly underplayed accent would have been more effective.

WS … but far from his best

I read all WS books in paperback in the past and still have the books.
When I found the Audiobook versions, it made it easy listening when in my workshop or driving
This for me has to be his worst I’ve listened to, though I’m only a few chapters into it.
It’s taken me so long to listen to, mainly due to the narration, I’ve started it so many times, only because I paid for it and needed to continue the series.
In all I found it disappointing

Swashbuckling Indiana Jones Treasure Hunt

As an avid Wilbur fan, I first read the book when it was published and was not impressed with it at all. I found it very disjointed and felt that the treasure hunt based on the turmoil of Ethiopia's civil war didn't make any sense to me. Now, I have returned to the Seventh Scroll after enjoying the entire Ancient Egypt saga and the second time it made a lot more sense. The Ancient Egypt series is some of Wilbur's finest work and one of the greatest stories ever written. I adore Taita -along with Sean Courtney and Centaine but Taita is by far my favourite because he was a slave and could never have the woman he loved. I found Royan very annoying and was surprised by Nicolas' patience with her. Incredible action thriller although some of the unravelling of Taita's puzzle as part of the treasure hunt was very tedious. While I am accustomed to the cruelty in Wilbur's books, I did find the torture of a woman a bit unpalatable simply because the victim was someone I liked so much. Great book.
