Her female characters make me want to tear my heart out with their stupidity!

Every time I start a Julia London novel, I swear I’ll never read another of hers again. The novels all start off wonderfully, but then she turns relationships into the same drama and makes the female character a helpless idiot! I find myself getting so anxious that the book no longer is enjoyable to read, so I skip the stupidity chapters just so I can finish the story. I wonder if Julia London experiences the same relationship problems as her female characters, and writes her stories the way she looks at life? Stop making women so stupid and stop having the man always fix the problem, Julia! You write well but your female characters are always flawed to the point of stupidity and aggravation.

Again the Heroine is Ridiculous

It seems this entire series is based on silly, women who can’t handle the simplest communication skills! Sophie is a Ninny! She thinks more than she speaks! You spend the entire book hearing her thoughts (that you wish she’d say) and listening to her openly say nothing!!! I don’t feel bad for her, I feel horrible for all who surround her! I don’t know if I’ll ever read another book from this author again! Ridiculous!

10 Stars!

I have loved a couple of the books in this series more than others, but this one is possibly the best. The others aggravated me at times because the women were almost too headstrong or the couples each made assumptions that were so incredibly off base and/or just wouldn't tell each other or someone keeping them apart some important bit of info that would have saved EVERYONE a lot of grief.

This one was so much better because this was more about them striving as a couple to find their way together in a world that would consider their love as scandalous instead of constantly battling each other. Even the one time they were apart for a bit wasn't even because they hated each other. And it's actually a wonderful thing that Sophia becomes more headstrong. It's not overdone or just for stupid pride. it's something that is needed for her happiness.

I do wish that Sophia would have shared with her family how one of the characters reminded her of her ex husband. I won't say more to spoil that part, but I believe that would have made a difference.

Narrarator did an especially good job with Lord Hamilton's impediment.

"You're the luckiest of us all." LOVED this. The ton is an impossible place. I don't see how any of them dealt with it. Hated and loved Julian in this one.

And finally, this book made me totally cry, like other reviewers have said. I didn't think I would, but it absolutely did.

"Wait for me by the pond. I'll be there soon." This is probably the most romantic and my absolute favorite line in this book.

Sophisticated Considering Genre

The narrator is doing much better than her earlier stories. She still has trouble with specific consonants, but is much improved. I liked the story. Not many books bring me to tears, but this one did. Worth the listen, especially since it’s included with membership.

it's a shame

These stories are very good and I cried at the end given the epilogue, however; how much better the tales would have been without the lustful scenes. True love is not built on lust. It is built on a much higher plane of spiritual love and wanting the best for the other person, rather than giving in to lust. This author should think about elevating her talent for the story to a higher plane

A second chance at love

Sophia was returning to England after 8 yrs. from her shame of running away to get married and then her divorce. She doesn’t want to have anything to do with society but her sister and sister-in-law have different plans. When she meets Trevor Hamilton again he seems interested in her but when she meets his bastard brother Caleb she only wants him.
With Trevors father incapacitated he spreads rumors that Caleb is an imposter. With Sophia and Caleb growing closer at a Ball one night he asks her to marry him and she refuses because he is a bastard. With Calebs heart in tatters he leaves. Realizing she made the biggest mistake of her life she tries to find Caleb to no avail. But when Lord Hamilton, Trevor and Calebs father disappears, Trevors blames the woman close to Sophia. Sophia then ventures out on her own to find them.
A wonderful book with a beautiful ending and loved the epilogue.

Unnecessary Tearjerker!

Did NOT like the last couple of minutes - the rest of the book was very good. This reader believes you went too far with the epilogue. Reminds one of the movie “The Notebook.” The ending did not add anything to the story.
