Summary
It was a slaughterhouse, the most horrific scene I have ever witnessed.... Olive Martin is a dangerous woman. I advise you to be extremely wary in your dealings with her.
The facts of the case were simple: Olive Martin had pleaded guilty to killing and dismembering her sister and mother, earning herself the chilling nickname ‘The Sculptress’. This much journalist Rosalind Leigh knew before her first meeting with Olive, currently serving a life sentence. How could Roz have foreseen that the encounter was destined to change her life – for ever?

"Awesomely accomplished. The plot twists and grips, like an octopus." (Daily Telegraph)

I absolutely loved this book. Recommended by another author on a podcast as one of his 3 favourite books of all time. Emma Fenney was amazing with the narration really bringing the characters to life.

Twist I didn't predict.
Great book, lot's of twists and turns, I was always guessing the ending but couldn't predict it. Great characters that were easy to warm to. I look forward to another of Minette's books.

gripping tale, great characters
Recommended by another author as one of their favourite books, I read this in a few days. I enjoyed the progression of the story, and most of the characters were welldrawn and believable. I will definitely read more by the same author.

Very disappointed
Was so disappointed with this book.
The chapters which dealt with the meetings between 'the author' and 'the sculptress' in prison were well managed, and loaded with suspence and foreboading.
However, I thought that the rest of the novel jumped from chapter to chapter as if 'the author' just went from one ridiculous situation to another.
How could a person possibly go from a full scale fight with 3 men straight to see a nun and expect to have a conversation and be taken seriously? You would need medical attention after a fight like that. I felt the novel contained far too many such ludicrous moments.
The ex policeman with the resurant also found himself being 'set upon' visciously too often to be believable.
Sorry, I couldn't really take it seriously at all.
