Story
Everyone tells Martha Friel she is clever and beautiful, a brilliant writer who has been loved every day of her adult life by one man, her husband Patrick. So why is everything broken? Why is Martha - on the edge of 40 - friendless, practically jobless and so often sad? And why did Patrick decide to leave? Maybe she is just too sensitive, someone who finds it harder to be alive than most people. Or maybe - as she has long believed - there is something wrong with her.

Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing. But it's the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute take a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant Nobel-prize-nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Story
Dawn breaks across the archipelago of Popisho. The world is stirring awake again, each resident with their own list of things to do: a wedding feast to conjure and cook, an infidelity to investigate, a lost soul to set free. As the sun rises, two star-crossed lovers try to find their way back to one another across this single day. When night falls, all have been given a gift and many are no longer the same. The sky is pink, and some wonder if it will ever be blue again.

Story
Two teenagers, a Greek Cypriot and a Turkish Cypriot, meet at a taverna on the island they both call home. The taverna is the only place that Kostas and Defne can meet in secret, hidden beneath the blackened beams from which hang garlands of garlic and chilli peppers, creeping honeysuckle, and in the centre, growing through a cavity in the roof, a fig tree. The fig tree witnesses their hushed, happy meetings; their silent, surreptitious departures. The fig tree is there, too, when war breaks out, when the capital is reduced to ashes and rubble, when the teenagers vanish.

In June 1940 France fell to the Nazis. The effects of this momentous event on the lives of ordinary Parisians and the inhabitants of a small rural community under occupation are brilliantly explored in Irène Némirovsky’s gripping and heartbreaking novel. Némirovsky herself was a tragic victim of the Nazi regime but she left behind her this exceptional masterpiece. In Suite Française she conjures up a vivid cast of wonderful characters who find themselves thrown together in ways they never expected.

Great book seriously bad narrator
I have "read" this booked based on Reese Wetherspoon book club. I was not disappointed although the narrator was very robotic and mono toned, which made it a little difficult to follow. I would recommend the book itself not the Audible version.

Trigger Warning
I found the narration stilted and ended up purchasing the written copy as I really didn’t get on with the manner this audiobook was produced. Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy the story there either! But it was certainly easier to finish than the audiobook.
I also felt it important to add that there are multiple references to (and descriptions of) sexual assault and child abuse which I found very jarring. These should be mentioned in the description as they could prove very upsetting for some people.

Read rather than listen
This is a good book that I’m glad I “read” but the narration is terrible. All the speech is delivered in a sing song voice as if that’s how people actually speak to each other. It was so grating.

Beautifully written and narrated
A book I didn’t want to get to the end of. Beautiful, measured, atmospheric prose; credible, flawed characters and a story line that draws the reader in and keeps them engrossed as the years unfold. A book about relationships that will stay with you long after the final chapter. Thoroughly recommended.

Believable, intriguing, exciting loved it!
An incredibly enjoyable listen. All the characters have depth and are interesting and believable. Very realistic dynamics & scrutiny of human behaviour & some exciting romance thrown in. Going between eras worked very well. I really loved it, pictured the whole thing in my head from the clever description of scenery and will be re listening.

A must listen
I couldn’t get enough of this book, I listen to a book a week and finished this in a couple of days. It was a extremely well written book. The descriptions in the book added to the atmosphere, I could feel, smell and see all the experiences the author was portraying. I loved that it started in the 60s and we traveled through the lifetime of the main character. I will say there are descriptions of abuse and if this is a triggering subject you need to be aware before listening, as it’s very upsetting.
The book as a whole is amazing, real and authentic. I will listen to it again for sure and I rarely do that with books. I would love to find something like it on the future. I cried in parts and related to some of the experiences the main character goes through. You won’t regret this book.

Well woven plot.
I really enjoyed this audiobook. The characters were very well formed and thinking back you could almost be a family member hearing gossip. The storyline had depth, going through 3 generations and how each lived kept this book interesting, engaging and gave rich background. . Very realistic love story for Elle where lust and love get a bit jumbled then replaced correctly. This could easily be a future mini series.
