What if the coolest girl you’ve ever met decided to be your friend?
Art Barbara was so not cool. He was a 17-year-old high school loner in the late 1980s who listened to hair metal, had to wear a monstrous back-brace at night for his scoliosis and started an extracurricular club for volunteer pallbearers at poorly attended funerals. But his new friend thought the Pallbearers’ Club was cool. And she brought along her Polaroid camera to take pictures of the corpses.
Okay, that part was a little weird.
So was her obsessive knowledge of a notorious bit of New England folklore that involved digging up the dead. And there were other strange things—terrifying things—that happened when she was around, usually at night. But she was his friend, so it was okay, right?
Decades later, Art tries to make sense of it all by writing The Pallbearers’ Club: A Memoir. But somehow this friend got her hands on the manuscript and, well, she has some issues with it. And now she’s making cuts.

punk music biography? Vampire book?
I enjoyed this in the same way sometimes you buy a sandwich expecting one thing but end up with a totally different taste that you still enjoy.
This is somewhere between a punk sessions musicians biography and fantastical horror. It wasn't what I expected but I did enjoy it, far funnier than previous Paul Trembley previous works which was an unexpected bonus.
The narration performance in this story is great really sells the story.

Another cracker from Mr T.
Memorable characters and beautifully-written, dreamlike horror. I particularly enjoyed the dual narration. Mercy's critique on Art's memoir/novel had me laughing out loud at points.

Vampires or not - great chilling moments
A wonderful tale of a (possibly) unreliable narrator, and a (possibly) unreliable commentator which may (or may not) be about vampires.
I loved the pretentious language of the muso lead character and how it was punctured with the snark of his friend. Alongside the humour, there are a few chilling moments scattered through the novel.
Very enjoyable, not gory, and I've recommended this to friends.
Great performances by the readers too!

I found this book to be beautifully written and I enjoyed the narration (once I got used the accents) however for me there was just no story. Nothing of note happened. First book I have not finished in a long time.
