Summary

Dreamy, scatty, and impossibly romantic, Polly McLaren is a secretary in an advertising agency, but the day a stranger on a train catches her eye, her life changes for ever. This American Romeo, who's recognised her old school scarf, begs Polly to help him find his missing Juliet. Over an intoxicating dinner at the Savoy, Polly agrees to play Cupid and her investigations begin. The last thing she needs now, however, is trouble from the men in her life.

Profoundly silly but enjoyable.

Luckily I had read a few of Catherine Alliott`s previous books and have a handle on the unusual mixture of farce and profound moments, which I have learnt to enjoy. Her books are often set in a world of upper class toffs and the genteele set which can be amusing. They can be a lewd, sweary, snobby bunch sometimes. But the cast of characters is very well drawn of all sorts of people. I nearly gave up after a chapter or two when I realised the main character was a 22 year old airhead. But I kept the faith, and sure enough, with Suzy Atchinson as a very talented narrator, the book has been a lovely romp through the good, the bad and the mad.

Absolutely Hillarious!

The old Girl network is never to be judged by the title. It is packed with rib-crackingly funny incidents which will arrest your attention from the moment you pick it up. I was sometimes reading this on long journeys and could barely stop myself from laughing out loud! The plot is cleverly written and the language is very colourful. I'll allways recommend Catherine Alliott to any one. Her books are very good at making a dull day seem much more interesting. I especially love the Narrator's interpretation of the characters. She really brings them to life. If you're thinking of the next one to read, try "Not that kind of Girl"

Suzy Atchinson's narration was hilarious

This Listen was great, I have listened too Catherine Alliott books before and have really enjoyed them.
The Character of 'Polly-Esther' was brilliant and had me laughing out loud, the situations that woman got herself into was hysterical😂
I listen to all books on 2.30 Speed otherwise I find the dialogue very slow.

The story was interesting with a few twists and turns. A 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 performance for Suzy Atchison who brought every character to life extremely well 😂

I totally recommend this book it was so funny!

Enjoyable listen.

I love this novel, and this audio version really did the.story justice. Polly is such a wonderful main character. Such a fun book, with a great cast of characters. Chick lit at its best.

Cringeworthy

I love Catherine Alliot books but the main character in this was very annoying. If it weren’t for the great narrator I would’ve ditched it. The story line was good though.

Great book. Awful Narration

This was one of the first books that I remember reading as a teenager (18) It made me laugh so hard that I had tears rolling down my cheeks. This was my reason for purchasing it on Audible.
I really wish that I hadn't bothered. The lady who narrated it completely ruined it for me. Her attempts at the male characters voices were just sleazy at best.
I wish that it could have been read by someone who had read it like most people would have, without trying to put different voices into it.
Completely ruined the book for me. Probably wont read this again for a while now.

Dated

Good story and lighthearted with humour however the voice of reader sounds like an older lady than the character of the story which ruins it and her accent sounds like she's to be someone she's not .

Rubbish

Going to return this as so irritating and she kept talking about people smoking all the time. Dreadful story too.
