Summary

I have found rock bottom: moving in with my older brother because I’m too broke to afford to live on my own. It’s okay, though, because we’ve always been close, and I think I’m going to have fun living with him again. That is, until I meet Cooper.... Turns out, my brother has very strong opinions on the idea of me dating his best friend - he’s dead set against it. According to him, Cooper is everything I should stay away from: flirtatious, adventurous, noncommittal, and freaking hot. (I added that last part because I feel like you need the whole picture.)

My brother is right - I should stay away from Cooper James and his pretty blue eyes. He’s the opposite of what I need right now. Nah - who am I kidding? I’m going for it.

The Off Limits Rule is a closed-door romance, perfect for anyone who loves lots of sizzle but no explicit content.

Light hearted Fun

When Lucy moves home to escape a lonely life with only her 4 year old son to keep her company, she moves in with her best friend. Who may also happen to be her older brother.
After trying everything to help her get over a breakup he decides to take her out with his player best friend Cooper.
There is an instant attraction between the two but Drew, wanting to look after Lucy, warns his best friend and sister to stay away from each other... So obviously, they don’t.

This was such a fun listen. There are cringy moments but all in all it’s a very sweet book. If you just take it as it is then it’s certainly worth the time, it made me chuckle and definitely brought the same joy as watching any old rom-com!

ok story. fun writing. narrators are a mixed bag

First the good news.... When I started listening, I actually REJOICED at the narrator's voice! too often narrators sound like news anchors, but Avery Caris sounds like an actual 20-something female and she seemed to "get" how they actually speak. she did the various character voices well, too.

But. This book has dual POV's. And the narrator for the guy POV is just wrong. He (Tor Thom) is skilled and all... he would be amazing on the radio or narrating a sci-fi or detective novel. but he sounds NOTHING like a 20-something romance hero. it is painful. it is laughable. it is even worse when he does the voices of the child or heroine (just imagine an older guy doing a breathy, cartoony girl voice). it constantly pulls me out of the story.

the story is one dimensional and shallow. but the author's fun "voice" and humor are what keep me listening.

Quick plane/beach read, a little forgetful

As much as I loved the descriptions of the characters and I can really grasp their personalities and how they think, it was honestly quite boring. Personally I find Lucy a little annoying, and even though I don't have kids, it seems like as much as she loves and is obsessed with her kid, it's almost like she views him as this huge handicap in her life and in dating. PG13 at best and I typically go for a bit more steam. I liked picturing like a young Alexandra Daddario and a blonde Sam Claflin as the mains. IDK. If you can get the book on the cheap or even free, I guess it's worth a read. Tor Thom though... Ooof, that voice is what I'm now gonna base all my erotic fantasies on late at night.

Sweet

This was such a sweet book. Great storyline. The girl narrator was great. The guy just wasn’t at all what I imagined. But worth the listen.

I love the story

I seriously love this story! It is such a cute, swoon worthy, steamy, funny, clean rom com! The characters are all fabulous in their individuality, and I love that! As for the audio version it was alright. Neither reader seems to stay consistent with the voices they use for the characters, and the male reader sounds like Kronk from the Emperors New Groove which makes me chuckle. Sometimes with both readers it took me a minute to figure out which character was talking, when the characters were just thinking, and when the characters were actually talking. However it didn’t change my love for the book at all! This story is the perfect clean rom com in my personal opinion!

Just Meh 😕

I wanted to love this book, but I'm not sure if it was the writing style or the performance for the audiobook. I was very underwhelmed. I could never tell when characters were talking or inter-monologueing. I would have much preferred just one person reading.

Lively

Such an amazing listen, the guy cracks me up with his Lucy voice, I was hooked and entertained the entire time, and couldn’t wait to hear the rest, never finished an audio book so fast.

Clean and quirky

Great heroine and you can easily relate too. Didn’t love the narration but loved the story! Quick and easy and even a little cheesy.

Immature female lead

This may be a unpopular opinion. The female lead was on the immature side for me. She’s suppose to be this 29 year old single mom, but her being constantly goo-goo ga ga for the male lead and his “hotness” came off shallow, annoying, and not really age appropriate. Some
Of her embarrassing moments or insecurities felt like it belongs to someone younger. I didn’t see much character development for her as a mother figure either. The male narration, as others have mentioned, also does not seem to match the leading male character. Overall, I struggled to finish this book.

Such cute story

This is such a cute clean romance. As others mentioned the male narration wasn’t quite right for this character, but it was still such a great listen. Love this author!
