Story
Ellen was just trying to help a stranger. That was how it started: giving a few minutes respite to a flustered young mother sitting opposite her on the train. A few minutes holding her baby while the mother makes an urgent call. The weight of the child in her arms making Ellen's heart ache for what she can never have. Five minutes pass. Ten. The train pulls into a station and Ellen is stunned to see the mother hurrying away down the platform without looking back.

Summary
Random House presents the audiobook edition of The Nanny by Gilly MacMillan.
Seven-year-old Jocelyn Holt loves her nanny Hannah more than her own mother.
When Hannah disappears one summer night, Jo never gets over the loss.
Thirty years on, now a young widow with a daughter of her own, Jo is forced to return to her family home, and the mother she’s always despised, just as a skull is pulled out of the lake in the grounds. Could this explain her beloved nanny’s disappearance? What other secrets will that lake give up to the police?
Then an unexpected visitor knocks at the door. And Jo’s world is destroyed yet again as she’s forced to look back at what really went on that hot summer night when she was a child. And everything that’s happened since.
Sometimes the truth hurts so much you’d rather hear the lie.

Despite the dodgy male voice and the American voices.
Clare Corbett as ever is just wonderful to listen too.
I only chose this - as C Corbett was narrating. I have chosen several titles this way and haven’t been disappointed! She seems to choose wisely as I have yet to listen to anything bad that she narrated. I shall look for more by this author. Oops I already have used a credit! Ha ha

Brilliant!
What a complicated story this is. I liked the fact that the author gradually changes your mind about each character, such that those who start out likeable aren’t necessarily so by the end. All the narration was excellent as well. A perfect listen that I highly recommend.
