Story
When marine private Oliver Chadwick Gardenier is killed in the marine barrack bombing in Beirut, somebody who might be Saint Peter gives him a choice: Go to heaven, which, while nice, might be a little boring, or return to earth. The Boss has a mission for him, and he's to look for a sign. He's a marine: He'll choose the mission. Unfortunately, the sign he's to look for is "57". Which, given the food services contract in Bethesda Hospital, creates some difficulty. Eventually it appears that God's will is for Chad to join a group called Monster Hunters International.

Robert "Bubba" Brabham never wanted to hunt monsters. He mostly wanted to drink beer, hunt deer, and chase women, like every other giant redneck in the world. But life interfered, and Bubba found himself holster-deep in the family business: monster hunting. Now he's the Southeastern Regional Hunter for the Holy Roman Catholic Church...Bubba has to save the world from the things that go bump in the night! Just as soon as he's done with his beer. Story
After the War of the Gods, the demons were cast out and fell to the world. Mankind was nearly eradicated by the seemingly unstoppable beasts, until the gods sent the great hero, Ramrowan, to save them. He united the tribes, gave them magic, and drove the demons into the sea. Ever since the land has belonged to man and the oceans have remained an uncrossable hell, leaving the continent of Lok isolated. It was prophesized that someday the demons would return, and only the descendants of Ramrowan would be able to defeat them. They became the first kings, and all men served those who were their only hope for survival.

Story
From the pulpy pages of Black Mask Magazine in the 1920s and '30s, through the film noir era of the 1940s, to today, noir fiction has lured many a reader and movie-goer away from the light and into the dark underbelly of society. Names such as Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, and James M. Cain; titles like The Big Sleep, The Maltese Falcon, The Postman Always Rings Twice...these have inhabited our collective consciousness for decades. Humanity, it seems, loves the dark. And within the dark, one figure stands out: that of the femme fatale.

Let down by bad casting
Yet another audible book where instead of hiring a Jamaican narrator a white man is used. Resulting in the most ridiculous and distracting Jamaican accent I have ever heard. We had American, Scottish, South African, Russian, and Dutch accents. Seriously!? Kudos to the narrator for trying his best, not his fault the editor and director couldn't be bothered to hire a Jamaican. I could barely stand listening to the story "the dead yard" because of this.

I LIKE THESE COLLECTIONS
This collection of Monster Hunter short
storys was a fun and fine addition to the
Monster hunter series. I actually enjoy
the short stories better than the full length
versions. Some of the long version, get
bogged down. Not all of these shorties are
great, but if you don't like one it's over in a
little while.
This is a fine collection of short stories.

Varied stories from various authors
The Monster Hunter Files
(Monster Hunter International)
by Larry Correia (Author, Editor)
I love the Monster Files and this has different author's stories. I like these authors but I felt some of these stories were only about 3 stars and some 4 stars. Most 3 stars! I liked them just not what I am used to with Monster Files.
The narration varied also with each story.

Eh.
A Lot of the stories and performances were hit-and-miss for me. I'm a big fan of this series, but not so much of this book. It was neat to get some insight into the expanded universe in different characters and their backstories, but for me a lot of the stories and performances were hit-and-miss.
BTW this is the first book in this series I have not completely 5 *...

First monster hunter book
For my first monster hunter book, this isn't too bad. I enjoyed most of the stories but there's a few I didn't really care for.
For not having read any of the other books, I wasn't that lost. You can catch up on things pretty easily.
Should've been more of a pause or break in between stories. You kind of finish one and immediately start reading the next.
Overall, pretty good. I'll be reading some of the first books to get more of the main story next
