Summary
In a futuristic society, fate is decided by genetics, and love is only for the elite.
The mark appeared while I slept and can’t be ignored. I must present myself to the consulate, and from there, I don’t know what happens. While I’ve been taught the mark is an honor, I have no idea what it means. Questioning isn’t encouraged. I must obey.
My change in status exposes me to a violent side of society that I never suspected. Brings me to a strange and wondrous place known as the "surface", where I am immersed in a different way of living. I discover pleasure. I am involved in intrigue and learn about lies and different perspectives of the truth.
I must also make a choice between a man who is part of the caste system and the one who would destroy it.

Very entertaining!
I enjoyed this book. It is a dystopian novel. As I initially listened to it I had a slight impression of the handmaids tale, without the gore and rape. This one has an unexpected ending and wraps up rather quickly. I would have loved to hear a little bit more about the unexpected twist at the end. I did go back and listen to the ending again, just becuase it was such an interesting twist! It is an enjoyable and easy book to listen to. It starts out very descriptive which helps with visualizing that world.

Surprisingly Entertaining
I initially bought this book because it was short and cheap, just the thing to pass a morning while waiting for a delivery. It turned out to be more interesting than I’d expected, with a nice but nasty twist near the end.
Other than the four main characters and a couple of minor characters, it’s light enough fare, not too complex, not taxing the brain too much. Nonetheless, the story moves along nicely. The narrator does a great descriptive job of demonstrating a learning curve in the heroine that eventually allows her to understand the nuances between the preferable good and the intolerable bad.
It’s a very good deal. In less than half a day, it did exactly what I wanted: light entertainment, interesting concepts and ideas, fresh characters, and perky narration.

It's just a dumb romance
Wrapped in an interesting sci-fi premise, but it's just romance story. If you like "innocent maiden dressed like Star Trek babe is taken by powerful man" dreck, go for it.

Don't waste your $1.95 it's not worth free
Horrible beyond belief. The beginning starts with much talk about fecal matter. That says it all.

Just enough of everything to be plausible
I wasn't sure when I started this, how much believable dystopian world-building could happen in a not-quite four-hour audiobook. The author did a REALLY nice job of it. It is a very cute story too. My one petty complaint is how the narrator pronounced some words (especially "button", a few times), and that in some instances where the character was supposed to sound angry or indignant the narration didn't come across that way. But as stated, it's a petty complaint and I own that. I got this on Daily Deal and am more than satisfied!!!

A Very Weird Story and Too Short
I enjoyed listening to this short story, but could have been developed more I think. The ending was a BIG surprise and leaves one thinking,..hmmm. It falls sort of in the dystopian genre with a spunky heroine and a grumpy military man ultimately finding love. The synopsis for the story, "make a choice between the caste system, etc" on Amazon isn't really accurate though as the other man wouldn't even be in the running for me.
It was worth the sale price.

I don’t recommend this book for anyone, even YA it’s apparently written for
Sooooo juvenile! If it is a YA, I wish Audible would let you know before you buy. Anyway, this has characters with teenage minds, teenage dialogue, and teenage concepts of world. Narrator accentuates the whole juvenile vibe.
I finished because I like to finish books & I believe you should read a book before you review a book. But it was painful. For full disclosure, about Chapter 9, I went to 2.0X speed.
I don’t recommend this book for anyone. It’s just plain bad!

Shallow, Uninspired. Vulgar.
Flat, one-sided characters of melodramatic proportions. There were plenty of interesting sci-fi ideas and societal debates that the author could have explored, but she only mentioned them in passing. Instead, she focused on graphic sexual encounters and insipid dialogue. She tried to close the story with a tease of deeper sci-fi mystery to follow, but I won’t be looking for a sequel. Lastly, the narration was okay, except the narrator could not pronounce contracted words. I winced with every “couldn’t,” “wouldn’t,” “shouldn’t,” and “didn’t” that she mispronounced.

Not sure that I’ve read this author before but I enjoyed the audiobook and before it was over I was looking for more in series to find it is stand alone book.
