Summary

The brave pilots of Rogue Squadron face the impossible as the sinister Ysanne Isard wreaks havoc on a fragile Coruscant.

The Rebels have taken the Imperial headquarters world of Coruscant, but their problems are far from over.

A killer virus called Krytos is spreading among the population and fomenting a counterrevolution at the heart of the New Republic. At the same time, Rebel hero Tycho Celchu is on trial for treason, accused of murdering his comrade and fellow pilot Corran Horn.

Corran, however, is still alive, trapped in the secret, inescapable prison of Ysanne Isard, the imperial officer whose reputation for torture and cruelty have earned her the moniker Iceheart. As he fights for his freedom, the pilot discovers an extraordinary power in himself—the power of the Force!

A classic story brought to life by a classic voice

Great narration by a Star Wars legend! Continuing the great X-Wing series in a great way, Mark Thompson does a great job bringing it to life.

A good story but it has issues

This book isn’t as good as the previous, I think it struggles to focus on one story and spends more time on silly things rather than getting to the point.
What I mean is that there were certain arcs that were more interesting than others. I found myself being disinterested with the whole trial plot and thought it was a waste of time. What the rogues were doing and Corrans time in lusankya was much more engaging.
Learning how Isard attempted to break rebels, turning them into sleeper agents was good but I felt it needed to be expanded upon further.
The Krytos virus wasn’t the big threat of this book and I found the tension came from what was happening to Corran. The highlights of this book all come at the end for me, seeing the rogues basically cut ties with the new republic was fun and Fey’lyas reaction was great. It was well narrated by Marc Thompson, though that’s to be expected.
It’s not the strongest book of the x-wing series but I still enjoyed it.

Top notch

Marc Thompson is outstanding as normal!

From someone that didn’t read these first time round and only has time for audio books now, these are a great addition.
Hopefully they carry on taking the time to update the legends audiobooks.
Can not recommend more highly

Brilliant series for fans

Absolutely love this series in the original cannon before it was retconned. Can't wait for book 4. Already I have read the books and listened to the, 1st version of audio books.... So impressed with the new versions that It does not due justice too listen to book 4 on the original format. Again Marc is absolutely brilliant love the sound editors work, with the music and sound effects at the correct point. My only gripe is the wait for book 4
Mr Horn and Mr Antilles are the real stars also love the relationship that Gavin is having with "the bothan"
If you are a long term lover of the wars this series is 1 of the best imo.

A good story

A good story but the end seems to be a bit rushed. From where Corrin bursts into the court everything seems rushed especially about where Myrax has been and Corrin thinking she's dead or their heartfelt reunion. These plus a few other things would make the story excellent however I can't wait for the next installation.

Peak star wars. Aka no disney or identity poltiics

The EU is the true post return of the jedi star wars. As far as I'm concerned Disney's Canon is false.

My one complaint to Marc...please please please stop doing whiny/young voices, the cracking voice of Gavin darklighter and whiny voice of Ayala wessiri (probably spelled that wrong) were nails on chalkboard. Marc is a joy to listen to, but sometimes his choices can be annoyong

Another brilliant effort

Glad this series, and other Legends works are getting the audio treatment that they should've gotten. Marc Thompson, one of my favorite Star Wars narrators, does it again. Michael's writing is also excellent.

“Star Wars books”

My parents used to get on my case for reading these growing up, saying I should read things that were better written. And I did extend my interest, however re-reading these as an adult, I submit that Micheal Stackpole is a masterful writer who creates strong narratives with a realistic, captivating tone that reflects a knowledge of life, it’s hardships, and it’s people. These books are relevant, thought-provoking, emotional, fun, and inspiring. Well worth the read. :)

Another banger

Marc Thompson hits the audio notes once again. Love listening to what I read 20+ years ago as a refresher.

Incredible and rich story with fantastic performance!

Absolutely fantastic! The third book is a great step up in the story from boon 2; it has 2 SSD, Jedi Relics, a murder trial, an unexpected betrayal and twist!
